Red returned with some headache medicine. Feeling a little better after taking it, he decided to make a cup of coffee.

As Steady was leaving the bathroom Cloud ran into to her in the living room.

 

"Good morning Daddy." Steady smiled cheerfully and gave him a hug.

 

"'Mornin Sweetie, you seem happy today."

 

"I guess my night just ended on a kind of high note." Steady replied with sparkly eyes.

There was a knock on the door. Red opened it.

 

"Good mornin' Red," Sand said as Red opened the door.

 

"Oh, good morning father," Red replied.

 

"You ain't lookin' good today," Sand said.

 

"Well, I'm not feeling too well," Red answered,"If you like to come in, I'll explain."

"Oh? What did you do after you left?" Cloud began spreading butter on a piece of toast once they reached the kitchen.

 

"I went to a friend's place with Nel." Steady began pouring a cup of coffee and adding cream.

 

"That sounds nice, did Red go?" She put the carton on the counter.

 

"No, he didn't want to go. I guess he just needed a break too."

 

"I see."

 

'I hope those three know what they're doing.' Cloud took his breakfast and brought it to the living room where he turned the player on again.

Red explained to Sand his situation with Steady, leaving out the details of going to the concert hall. He let Sand assume he was emotionally beating himself up. Sand showed the normal sympathy a father shows.

 

"I know it's hard," Sand said, "but don't worry yerself sick about it. It ain't gonna do no good."

 

"I'll try not to," Red responded.

 

"Sorry I need to be leavin' so soon, but I need to be gettin' ready."

 

"It's fine, father. I'll catch up with you soon."

 

They said their goodbyes, and Sand left.

"I'm sorry to pry but what do you plan to do Steady? I do t know if Shari g you is the best tactic."

 

"I know, this isn't a permanent solution but I want to be sure I made the right choice."

 

"I'm sure either choice will be the right one. If they care enough they will be happy of you are." Cloud stood up and gave his daughter a hug.

 

"Thanks Daddy, but I need to go see how Red is doing."

 

"That's quite alright, I'll be here waiting for you."

Red looked in the mirror. He still looked severely sick. The medicine he took still hasn't kicked in, either. He wanted to play a little music, but he couldn't find his trumpet. He must have left it in the music hall. He laid on his bed and pretended to tune his bass.

Steady soon arrived at Red's and gently knocked on the door.

 

"Red. It's Steady."

Red opened the door.

 

"Oh. Hello Steady," he replied.

Steady looked him over and noticed how unkept he looked.

 

"Are you alright Red? You don't look very good. Did something happen last night?"

"Umm... No," Red answers. His ears started to ring he rubs one with his hoof. "Would you like to come in?" he asks expressing a sharp pain in his voice.

"umm sure. But is there anything I can do for you? You don't look well."

"No, I'm fine," Red answered defensively, "Come in."

"Alright thanks I guess." Steady entered the room and headed to the kitchen to make some tea.

Red closed the door, sat down and rubbed his head. The headache wasn't going away fast, and he needed to not raise any suspicion.

Once the tea was done Steady placed the cups on a plate. She put some medicine next to Red's.

Red looked at the cup and the medicine beside it. "Thank you," he said. He took it and had a sip of tea.

"No problem, I'm sorry I left last night. My head has been out of it lately."

"Don't worry about it," Red replied.

 

There was a knock on the door. "I'll get it," Red said. He got up and opened the door to see Scarlet. His eyes widen.

 

"Hello Red," Scarlet said.

"He-hello," Red said back.

Scarlet walked inside. "I just wanted to see if you were..." she trailed off when she saw Steady.

"Um Scarlet, this is Steady," Red introduced, "Steady Beat."

"Oh. Hello Steady," Scarlet said.

"Oh um hello, its nice to meet you." Steady hesitantly shook her hoof.

"You must be the one Red was talking about last night," Scarlet said.

Red, now standing behind Steady in Scarlet's view, was giving a signal to cut it out.

"Red was talking about me last night?"

 

She gave them each a quizzical look.
