The Dragon Gauntlet wasn't very good at it's job.

Seriously, this thing is worthless. "Only the strongest, biggest dragons!"

 

But Spike and Garble (of all dragons) made it there first. Then while they were fighting, literally all the other dragons showed up too. How does this "Gauntlet" somehow allow everybody to finish eventually?

 

The Dragon Lord desperately needed new leadership if this is the best he has.

It's still a matter of "first-come, first-served."

 

Plus, if it actually killed all the other Dragons or something, then who'd be left for the new DL to rule over?

Yeah, it did the job just fine, though perhaps not entirely as Torch imagined.

Its like throwing too much grass into a lawnmower, eventually the traps all clog and stop working from the dragon corpses

 

but, more seriously, the gauntlet is probably more meant to just be a race than anything to determine the best dragon candidate, not murder the entire population of dragons-- a lord without subjects isn't a lord after all.

The way the gauntlet was situated in a location not even Torch could fit through probably meant that humongous dragons couldn't get to it so makes me wonder if Torch really wanted big giant dragons to even get a try?

Heh, it didn't seem like that great of a test.  But then again, Torch didn't seem like that wise of ruler.  Maybe Rainbow should have chosen the new Dragonlord based on the criteria of coolness, awesomeness, and radicalness.
