Misconceptions you've had about the world of MLP?

I used to think that Las Pegasus was the MLP version of LA. Turns out it's actually the Equestrian equivalent of Vegas.

Even excluding the use of moons as a measure of time, I am still confused on the passage of time within the series.

I understand that from the very first episode of the series to Princess Twilight Sparkle, a full year has passed in universe.

But after that things have gotten confusing.

We get a Heartswarming Eve episode in season 5 and now we are getting another one next week.

Did an entire year pass from the end of season 5 to season 6 or something?

According to the map, the MLP world is very unexplored. We basically only have Equestria, one large continent. Where's the other side of the world? Is it just vast ocean?

For me, it's the ages of the characters. Twilight's apparently old enough to be an aunt, though.

I once had a neighbor that had a niece. Said neighbor was only 10. You can be an aunt or uncle at any age.

I didn't know nature in Equestria literally needed to be managed manually. The day and night cycle won't work on it's own, and neither will any weather? How does that make any sense?

I had a nephew when I was three.

 

That being said... I always assumed that Celestia and Luna were naturally born Alicorns, which seemed to be supported by The Journal of the Two Sisters, but it seems like that might not be true now.
