Why isn't Lauren Faust Lauren MCCRACKEN?

Not sure if there's a better place in the forum to put this thread? Anyway, so usually (at least in the United States), the wife of a husband usually changes her last name to that of the husband's. Like even though my mother got divorced, she still has my dad's last name because she wasn't willing to change it back. So this has definitely piqued my interests. I don't usually see this happening. Why is it that Lauren Faust didn't change her last name when marrying? I mean, I read on her Wikipedia article moments ago that she "considers herself a feminist," so could it be that she wanted to bypass the American cultural standard of changing the last name when marrying? (Although most people I know are "feminists" including myself; I guess the word has different interpretations and I don't want to get into that discussion so much) I can see why someone may feel that the cultural fad of changing the last name to the husband's is sort of unappealing, since it could be perceived (again I'm not saying my opinion, but what some people's opinions may be) that it makes it seem as if you're totally relying on the husband for everything, and it's not the other way around, so much that even your own name depends on him (and not the other way around). I've also heard of more rare cases where the husband changes their last name to the wife's last name, but I haven't ever actually seen this happen, so it must be pretty rare. But that isn't what happened here either. So does anyone here happen to know the answer to this mystery? Or even any other theories?

She chose not to take her husband's last name for whatever reason. Many people don't change their last name because it actually costs money and is more effort than it's worth at times. You need to get a new social security card, driver's license, passport, etc. All of which cost money. Some people don't want to go through the hassle which is why when many people get divorced they keep their old last name as well.

She could have also done it because she's a feminist and wanted to make a "statement", but honestly who cares?

Truthfully we may never have an answer and we aren't entitled to one either. The woman's marriage is not our business and anyone who pries enough to find out really is a douche.

Putting their marriage aside. She probably just wants to make a name for herself and not ride off the success of her husband. It's really common actually

You are 100% correct; stuff like this is her own business

I will add though that a situation like this not own isn't common in some areas of the country; but also pretty much it's expected that the married couple follow tradition in that the wife takes the last name of the husband's family. You really never hear of wives not doing that around here.

Really, I've given thought that if I were to marry someday that I would bring up the option of my taking the wife's last name. Regardless I think Lauren's choice is somewhat enlightening for me, and make me wonder about the place that tradition currently holds and will hold in the future.
