Rivers didn't know what to make of what was going down, and listened to them in absolute disbelief. They were crazy, they were all crazy, and he wouldn't be crazy with them, awkwardly saying, "I must go now." Heading away from the rest of them, he would find his way back alone he decided.

"Is he gonna be OK?" Fluttershy asked, concerned. Rivers had already left the scene and the other three remained. There was something off about the third pony, as if he was a joker. He was intimidating, almost making Fluttershy run inside, but not quite.

Cobalt just looked around, seeming about as clueless as Rivers and Fluttershy combined. The sun and moon in the sky at the same time? What was that about?

 

"He'll be fine... I think," she shrugged, then smiled at the pegasus, "but yeah, thanks for the info! Now I'll just pay you back in kind."

 

She turned to her side and showed her flank, which had the image of an open book, with star-shaped sapphires around it.

 

"This here is a cutie mark," she explained, "it's basically a representation of what you're good at. For example, mine means I'm good at magic!"

He floated towards Fluttershy and placed his hoof around her neck in a friendly way and whispered in her ear so only her can hear.

 

I don't know how this world works, but I can give you an advice. Don't be so gullible and naive. You may stumble on somepony that has mischievous goals and would not hesitate to use you as a pawn. Too much kindness is a bad thing. There will be somepony who will end up abusing it. You should not trust strangers so easily. After all, what if they are just a bunch of weirdos who painted pretty pictures on their flanks and are pranking you for their amusement? What if they just playing on your kindness and just want to play a mean prank, ridiculing you in front of everypony on the festival? After all, that version makes much more sense than some crazy stuff about parallel words and portals and fancy magic, doesn't it? If I were you, I wouldn't trust complete strangers so easily. I can assure you that they speak the truth now, but it's just for the future. You'll have to learn to be able to stand for yourself. I am your friend. I just want to help you.

 

He removed his hoof and stood a bit farther.

 

Anyway, as she said, it's true, cutie marks represent the talent of a pony. But it can be much more than that. It's also more or less clear representation of their destiny. Their purpose in life. If one loses their cutie-mark or don't get one, they are like lost souls, roaming around, seeking a purpose that would fill the void and give their existence a goal.

 

He smiled.

"Wow, those marks sound amazing! Too bad this world doesn't have them... Of course, I take it you have to earn them... Nothing so special would come so easily..." Fluttershy blushed, before hearing Missklang's speech. "You know what, that advice is actually, really helpful... I'll keep it in mind. Besides, I can't say that EVERYPONY I've trusted hasn't stabbed me in the back before... I know what It's like... And, back to the subject, so not having a cutie mark is like not having a purpose? And yes, I have conversed with the two princesses before. They'll be in Ponyville tonight for the Summer Sun celebration so you can go visit them. if you want to that is...". Fluttershy flapped her wings... Well, tried to.

Eventually, he stopped outside of the town again and laid down, there was nopony helping him get any sense of direction, and so he would have to wait for the stars to navigate back home. What in the world was going on here? Whatever it was, he wanted nothing to do with it.

The rest watched on as he wandered around aimlessly. It was sort of amusing but guilt tripping at the same time. The fact the stars were only in half of the sky didn't really help either, and that's ignoring the fact that even if he did find his home here, he would probably run into the version of himself in this universe.

Missklang looked at the parting pony. Then started thinking. This world probably never saw a cutie mark. That didn't mean that they weren't discovered "in theory" by some fancy unicorn mage. Better be careful. With such low coefficient of harmony, it was entirely possible that their moral code was lowered or even sacrificed "for science and magic and the greater good". Better not display their flanks too much in order to avoid attention and end up being caught as an object of scientific research interest. He turned to the rest of the group and waved his hoof, attracting their attention. 

 

Hey, if cutie marks are such rarity in here, better not wiggle our flanks around too much. After all, we don't know what their reaction would be. Come closer, take one of those.

 

He opened his small pouch and dragged a bunch of very simplistic road cloaks with hoods, of different, almost faded colours, similar to the one worn by Zecora. They were made very roughly, and were clearly already far from new, with stitches all over the place. They were however surprisingly clean as if they were just movie props.

 

Get one to cover your rear. and body. You too Flatts. Better if you don't stand out from the group. And it would clearly fit your... hmmm... introvert hermit style who don't want to be remarked. Or of course, you can continue with your role as our guide and attract attention to you and then, possibly, questions and rumours, which will of course be anyway, but like that, they will get a name. But it's like you want. Too bad that the other pony went his merry way. If he is discovered, he can tell about us as well...

 

Missklang smiled. He could easily rather put a simple illusion spell on each of them, but he didn't know if the culture was exactly same here, so an odd behaviour could be suspicious. This way, all the bizarre actions could be simply explained by the fact they were wearing worn travel cloaks, and thus labelled as strangers from far away by local folk.

"Um... Well, this is awkward. Anyway, these are Rhetoric Rash, Cobalt Flicker and the one who ran off... I think his name was Sable Rivers. Safety first I guess~" Fluttershy beamed. Even Disharmonic Fluttershy was still the kind of Pegasus who sees the good in everypony. And for a Pegasus that couldn't even fly, that was as close to a gift as she ever really had. She couldn't help but think though, that maybe trying to get one of these Cutie Marks might help her in her life... But then there'd be the reactions of the rest of Ponyville. It was just like Missklang said, if they drew too much attention to themselves, it could be disastrous. Fluttershy knew in her heart what she wanted, but sighed at the thought of it being so hard to reach... Noticing her thoughts were slowing her down, she gasped looking up, and galloped over to the rest of the group to catch up.
