Didn't see a thread for these games so thought i'd make one. (UPDATED: Went back and added a lot more information about Chivalry: Medieval Warfare as it is now released).

Age of Chivalry:

I was wondering if anypony here plays / has played Age of Chivalry. If you don't know what it is here's a description (i'm not very good at these but will try my best. Also i haven't played in awhile but will refresh myself later and make changes where needed):

Age of Chivalry is a free mod for source games (Left 4 Dead, Half-Life 2, etc). It doesn't modify any particular game though, but you need to have a source game to run it. It's a first person online medieval combat game, with several different classes and weapons.

Gameplay: When you start out, you select a team and a class. Once that's out of the way, you start the match. There's a defending team and an attacking team, and the attacks much breach the defenders and capture something, kill someone, or something of that sort. On some maps there are useable siege weapons to assist you. When first starting out the game is generally hard and you'll probably die a lot, as there are a few things you need to take note of. The game uses a stamina system, which your sword attacks (if i remember right) deplete. The more stamina you have the more damage you do (if i remember right. It has been awhile). I don't think that holding up your shield (if you're a class that has one) drains your stamina, but getting hit does. If you're being an archer, you must also account for arrow drop and (once again, if i remember right) you do not have any help aiming. Being an archer was my favorite class though as they're really powerful (but hard to use) and getting a kill is EXTREMELY satisfying. I remember shooting sideways at people trying to get across a rope bridge over a canyon and knocking them off or killing them, and shooting down contested hallways. It's a blast :D

Classes: There are a couple different class you can be. There are archers (one with a longbow and one with a crossbow), normal ground troops with a variety of weapons, and knights (with a variety of weapons ranging from battle axes to maces).

I think that covers the basics of it. Anyway if you haven't tried it i would highly recommend giving it a go if you have a source game as it's free. Here's a link to it on steam (there's also a link on the steam page of Source games): http://store.steampo...1_7_suggest__13

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a stand-alone game being made by the same people, but on the Unreal Engine 3. If i understand it right, it's basically Age of Chivalry, but way way more awesome. Link to their website: http://www.chivalrythegame.com/blog/

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare:

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare has been released! Having now played both, I definitely prefer Medieval Warfare to the mod (which is to be expected I suppose). The combat is much more fluid, works better, and there are more combat options. The graphics have taken a large leap forwards from the mod, and are pleasing to look at. There are different unlockable weapons for each of the classes (Knight, Vangaurd, Man-At-Arms, and Archer) by gathering kills with the previous weapons. The game is also much more polished than the mod. I think one of the most notable difference between the two would be the stamina system. Medieval Warfare still has it, but you are less dependent on it. Tis a nice change I think. Here's a class breakdown:

Archer: The archer, is well, an archer. Uses bows, crossbows, and javelins as main weapons, with swords and daggers as secondary weapons. There are various arrow types that are better in different situations. Imo this class takes the most skill to play due to having to shoot and account for arrow drop, and not just get right up in front of people. Does +50% backstab damage. Weakest armor in the game, but the damage output is crazy. One well placed shot and your target goes down.

Man-At-Arms: Can dodge, and uses swords and small shields. Least armored melee class, but if done right is very deadly.

Knight: This would be your 'tank'. Has the most armor and can take the most hits, and uses less stamina to block attacks. Isn't very agile and has slow weapons, but very high damage. Getting smashed on the head by a massive hammer isn't fun. :P Can also use giant shields.

Vangaurd: I find this class very annoying. They use polearms, and thus are able to poke you at large distances with high damage. They also can charge if they sprint long enough and leap at you.

My personal favorite class is currently Man-At-Arms. I like the speed/shield without being clunky like a Knight. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare does a lovely job of transmitting the feeling that your attacks actually have weight to them, and the sound effects are quite nice. Fist fights feel amazing, if you want to goof off. The game also is skill based. Blocks and attacks are all directional, meaning you can't just hold your shield up and expect to not get hit in the front. This is true to some extent, but correctly angled attacks can get past. Shields will block projectiles, be they on your back or on your arm. It's possible to shield bash and kick to shortly break defenses and try to get a hit in if your opponent is blocking. There are attack combos, and you can stab, slash, or do a overhead swing. Stab has the most reach, slash is the fastest, and overhead does the most damage. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare has two sides (Agatha and the Mason Order). I usually play as Agatha as I like their armor/color scheme more.

The game is almost completely online, there is no campaign. The maps are set up in a series of attack/defend objectives generally, though there is a CTF and Deathmatch map. There is a tutorial. It is currently $25 on steam.
