ManaMinori 4,149 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 While browsing TRU and Target, I couldn't help spotting Pokemon 25th anniversary merchandise exclusives and Sonic 25th anniversary merch. Does it bother pony collectors that MLP franchise anniversary items aren't done, or aren't as common, if they are? Leave a Whisper 703 November 19, 2016 Share November 19, 2016 Sometimes. But there is merchandise for older collectors. We don't get spoiled as much as Hasbro spoils it's Transformers fans. But there have been retro pony clothes, mugs, stationary, box sets and toys released quite recently. The Loyal Subjects toy company are working on retro pony figures, running mill has two mini pony and artbook sets, Firefly and Glory. Hasbro released two Collector Pony sets one with the original six ponies and one with the original rainbow pony set back when G3 was still going. They weren't well received by fans for being overpriced and poor quality.
Flutter's lover <3 8,207 November 19, 2016 Share November 19, 2016 Not really, I mean, if it's not out, then well, kinda hard to collect something that doesn't exist. If they were to release a set of some sort, It'd be kinda cool.Though I tend to collect merch of just one certain pony. If the merch is cool/ a bit unique then sometimes I'll buy other ponies merch. Fhaolan 4,493 November 19, 2016 Share November 19, 2016 Hasbro messed up a long time ago, selling a number of molds and chunks of the IP for G1 MLP, back when they were retooling for G2. Despite what GI Joe, Transformers, and Star Wars had proven; that characters sell toys, large chunks of Hasbro were still not thinking in those terms. They apparently didn't realize that selling the molds and their attached full rights for a quick buck rather than destroying them as was normal for toys, meant selling the character designs and names for perpetuity as well. So they're rather limited with what they *can* do now for Anniversary stuff. I'm under the impression they've either managed to reclaim some of the IP rights for some G1 stuff, or they're trying to pull the trick of simply using IP in more subtle ways (For example Firefly being mentioned in an episode, but not actually being shown or having a toy made) and hoping that the people who actually have the rights to those characters don't notice or haven't got the guts to call them on it. In any case, they might be able to do *some* Anniversary toys, but as I understand it they're still missing significant chunks of their own IP for G1.
