Golf is taken as a serious sport but not weightlifting?

im not him he explained it a lot better than what i did but the jist of it is that Body builders and weight lifters only work one muscle group yes he may be able to lift say 500kg but its only one rep he also CANT do more than one rep of say 100kg

What you are describing there is more like powerlifting, which is where the aim is to able to carry out a single repetition of the highest possible weight. The ability to do multiple repetitions of any given weight is muscle endurance, which is not the same thing as muscle strength.  What I was trying to explain is the difference between a contest like Mr Universe, which is about muscle size, shape, symmetry etc, and is not the same as something like TWSM which is about muscle strength and endurance, which in turn is not the same thing as powerlifting.

Bodybuilders, weightlifters and powerlifters can be viewed as three distinct sports in their own right, because the aims of each are different.

either way im still new to fitness and learning new things every day but what i learnt is to take everything everyone says with a grain of salt

before the Army when i was trying to lose weight no ones advice worked they all told me different things and a personal trainer even made me GAIN weight and people just gave up and said "i think its just your body type i don't think you can be thin"

i decided to do my own thing and experiment a little and after a lot of trial and error i found what worked for me i started losing weight and it just melted off and i lost 60kg in like 9-10 months and kept it off for 5 years you need to find what works for you (should be noted my weight loss had nothing to do with the Army i was just unhappy with my weight i was still at university at the time)

golf is fun to play but boring to watch

weightlifting on the other hand... i was actually talking to some one about this

basically body builders and weight lifters are actually weak the muscles they have are useless because they're not the strong type of muscles (i don't know how to explain this) they just bulk up to look buff for mostly aesthetics some of the muscle groups they bulk up aren't actually even that useful take abs for example that rock hard 6 pack might look sexy af they're really not useful evolution wise they really only exist as emergency muscles for if your back goes out

you look up like

SAS

Navy Seals

Marines

Australian Infantry

and you will see not a lot of them are massively buff they're just average sized some of them even pretty skinny that's cause they're working on muscles that actually do something

im a thin lean guy and the other day at work we had to move stuff around and pack/clean up getting ready for the end of the year and this "do you even lift bruh?" kind of guy could not work out how i was stronger than he was and had more endurance

i forget the guy who explained it to me properly but its basically just "show" muscles that don't require much effort to obtain just working the same group to exhaustion over and over again there comes a point where the muscle just stops getting stronger but gets larger

When did I say bodybuilding. I still give respect to BBs as they got good techniques but I don't consider bodybuilding a sport. I'm talking more on powerlifting, calisthenics and olympic weightlifting.

Also professional bodybuilders do have pretty good endurance they work out like almost everyday for several hours.

Weight lifting is most certainly serious! I just about broke my knee cap in highschool when I tried to bite off more than I could chew and dropped around 500 lbs on my thigh
