Some people from france entered equestria and were transformed into ponies, but they still spoke french and retained thier memory. Thus, the fleur-de-lis came to equestria!

Well, IRL I was a dungeon master in the late 1970s through the late 1980s.  I researched Heraldry then. IIRC, it was part of the French royal flag. It's use in a coat of arms implies a French connection, just like a lion is English & a beaver is Canadian (Heraldry is weird.  Did you know: All lions must be in a certain posture or they are not lions but lion-leopards & if there are more than 1 they are lioncels? Now that you know, do you really care?)

 

But, for Equestria, this implies a connection with France on some level.  There's also a thread buried somewhere about the similarities between The Crystal Empire & Paris
