Should Zecora have been SG's mentor?

I get that Twilight is teaching her, because Princess of Friendship and all, but seems like she's more interested in teaching her powerful spells, hands on, and leaving friendship lessons for SG to learn on her own, rather than setting them up for her, as Sunbutt did.

When SG mind controls her friends, Twilight says she's not mad, in spite of having every reason to be (in fact, it's worse than the communist brainwashing in the camp, back in The Cutie Markless), but she's just disappointed.

And looking back on episodes like Hoofeilds and McColts, and I'd say that Twilight still isn't fit to be a teacher.

on the other hoof, Zecora, who is horribly unterutilized, and was MEANT to be a mentor to Twilight, instead of a magical mcguffin, is rotting in the depths of the forgotten pool of characters. Even when Apple Bloom started going to her for potion making....For some reason....Their screen time together as mentor and pupil isn't really shown, and Zecora especially continues to lack back story, development, goals, etc.

I think that the writers could have SG start being mentored by Zecora, to allow for more development for them both (though I'm much more interested in Zecora).

But what do you guys think?

i do believe the devs did want to include zecora more, but the producers did not want her to fit the "mentor" for..."whatever".

though she would be a great mentor, it does seem like shes more of a "Gandalf", does sorta mentor... but mostly "points" in the right direction...(shame she didn't have more lines/ scenes)

with that said, i would like to see,

more of zecora on the screen...

for the way she thinks, and the words she has said,

echo endlessly, within my head.

and if you have known me for a time,

you will know i can rhyme.

... once i even used zecora, and had her speak... but the words i used sounded like her.

(from memory..."tell the ponies at the gate, for me they should not wait... the galloping gala I would attend, but there is a situation I must mend... you, my friend, shall go in my place, so this new world, you may get a taste!")

The unasked questions are what bother me, not the answers. The answers give me clarity. Silence is in its self an answer, so ask! To not ask is to deny the existence of said question, and leaves you with just "what if".

It would have been nice to see more of Zecora as she has been sadly underutilized these past few seasons, but I don't know if she would have been the best type of character to teach Starlight Glimmer as a mentor.

I still believe that her character arc would have been best handled if all of the mane 6 played a part in mentoring her in friendship and not just Twilight.

Like we should have gotten an episode focusing on Starlight Glimmer warming up to say Applejack or Pinkie Pie in one episode, and than Rarity, Rainbow Dash and so on in their own separate episodes across the season.

Similar to how Peridot made friends with Steven and the rest of the Crystal Gems in Steven Universe for her reformation.

The problem with the Zecora character, is that she is a character that rhymes constantly. It's almost impossible to use a character in a major role, that always rhymes and if you just take it away from her, people will complain that the Writers stopped trying.

With Zecora, it's pretty much a no win situation.

Well, yes Zecora would have been a better choice.  But, IMO the writing has fallen off the last 2 seasons & especially S6 so they didn't. She is already teaching potions to Apple Bloom & they could have shown her teaching other things to other foal characters but no, they didn't :-(
