According to this: https://www.equestriadaily.com/2017/04/season-7-episodes-are-being-completed-7.html season 7 is still being worked on, with episodes being completed 7-8 weeks before their scheduled airdates. So, with this knowledge, there's no way season 7 could end in time for the movie.

I think it was obvious from the beginning that the show wasn't going to into the movie.

Some facts to consider. 

They were still working on S5 and S6 as they initially aired the first episodes. This is not the first time this happened.

 

S5 stared in early April and finished in Nov. S6 started in March and finished in Oct. 

 

Production of the series is not connected to production of the film. 

 

Discovery Family dictates airing dates, not DHX. 

 

It is very possible that the film and the series will overlap. I believe I've maintained that they should be focusing on making the film approachable for a general audience, so tying it into the S7 finale would have been an idiotic move on their part anyway. 

 

I see no issue here.
