Not very outstanding, mine lief... I transferred the workflow from one physical server to another, and let our television specialists take it from thither... and crap load of tiny routine, but still necessary and time taking tasks. Trying now to recompose and mayhap write a zilch.

I never thought I would her you say "crap," Alex~!

Anyways, I hope the rest of your day goes well, even if you've been working incredibly hard. :rarity: Good luck with the rest of your workload~!

Ah well, I am sure you performed your necessary tasks promptly and professionally :)

I recall from my own sysadmin days that it is better to do that boring one hour task now, than do the exciting six hour task with three layers of management breathing down your neck which is the inevitable result of that one hour task not being done promptly :)

That's the truth, mine lief. A good SA can be seen doing nothing, but that meaneth that before that they surely rolled like a squirrel in wheel to reach that blissful serenity *chuckles*

Automation is both a savior and a millstone about the neck - After much coding, many days of work would be done in but a single morning, needing only a hand on the tiller to ensure that everything went according to design.  When the decision was taken that my services, so clearly not strenuous, could be done by some other person and thus save on payroll, the need of the hand on the tiller and the application of grease to the workings took a few weeks to become evident, but the eventual crash onto the rocks was apparently both spectacular and expensive to remediate... so, yeah.

Automation is good, but the owner of aforementioned "hand (or hoof for that matter) on the tiller" must at least have some insight in what they are doing, otherwise any automation is futile as the whole workprocess (and in the worst case the results of it for a period) goeth to the deep-deep gutter. Some tasks can't be arrant automated. The worst thing, I was doing not mine own work today, it's like... debugging somepony's code without commentaries *chuckes*

Ah, when it is your own automation it is easy to understand; but I do know how you feel - When I was coding automation for my employer's "pod" solution, I would ask my co-programmer to explain my own code to me - if he couldn't do so at a glance, I would rewrite it to make it simpler to understand. Well written code needs no documentation, it is self-evident at a glance (although that of course is but an unobtainable ideal :D )

Indeed - I would retrace my steps and investigate, given the second also seems to have evaporated somehow - but sadly, this Costa closes at 6pm and we are now past that mark.

Good evening to you @CypherHoof  Glad to hear it cooled off.  All the rain here is starting to do that for us too.

Doing great.  My morning at work is going to be rough, but it'll be fine after lunch.  Hyped though, I got my art commissioned and it's already done!

Been a weird day in that regard - started off so foggy you could hardly drive, but the sun burnt that off fairly early, leading to a really hot (but humid) day....

Sorry to hear that; at least it's just the morning then.

That's fast. I do wish I had artistic talent, but I may just go with trying to learn something like flash or toonboom, so I can manipulate a puppet instead of having to learn how to draw.

Indeed.  Should be okay though.  I just have to give it my all this morning and I'll be fun.  It's going to suck though.

Yeah it was fast.  It only took them 14 hours to complete it!
