Disney's Star Darlings is what Lauren Faust's concept of MWatGG could've been?

Maybe some people remember that before My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic stepped onto the stage and was picked up by Lauren Faust, she had created and pitched one of her own ideas for a show called Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls to Hasbro, who shot it down and assigned her to work on Pony instead. This was before 2011. Fast forward a few years later, and Disney comes out with their IP, Star Darlings. Call me crazy, but the characters and theme seem awfully similar to what Lauren Faust pitched to Hasbro- a group of girls in outer space who represent planets (or the zodiac signs), and play music? Eerily similar designs and characters? LF's 'the Sun", having dark skin, big golden hair, a golden ensemble, and liking to sing- and being a mirror clone to Disney's Leona who looks and does the same thing? (along with many other characters) Yeah, no. This can't be a coincidence.

@Nightmare Muffin

This topic has been moved into the Media Discussion section. :grin: I can understand why this was started in General Discussion; it does have a lot of discussion potential, but this particular topic has large enough ties to media to warrant it being in Media Discussion instead.

Thank you for your understanding, and happy posting~! :fluttershy:

Those are some very nicely modeled cel-shaded character models. However, the animation is all kinds of stiff... and the art style doesn't quite mesh with my tastes :/ I think I may actually prefer the character designs on Faust's Galaxy Girls... Then again, I do tend to have a bias against 3d character designs in general so...

Regardless, they could definitely take some cues in animation from the Idolm@ster series, if you ask me :o

^Stella Stage and Platinum Stars (from 2017 and 2016 respectively) managed to deliver that^ level of graphical nuance/ animation complexity whilst running in real time on base Playstation 4 hardware. I think a pre-rendered production like Star Darlings definitely has a hella overhead to improve in these areas.

animation aside, though, I was mainly referencing the concept and character design similarities (since I don't know squat about animation)
