Looks real, but that random text popping up and being clear in contrast to the otherwise shadowed and cloudy images kinda makes me think otherwise.

It's real, all right. I read about these experiments a few months ago in Scientific American Mind. Neuroscience is advancing at an incredible speed, especially as our computers increase in power and capability as well.

 

As you can see, the images aren't quite perfect yet, but it's incredibly impressive that they manage to get the basic shapes of the image out of the brain at all. One of the issues with reconstructing images from the brain as seen through the eyes is that the brain perceives details selectively, so the image in the mind's eye that one is trying to detect will likely be missing many details that the brain thinks to be irrelevant. So, reconstructing a perfect, camera-like image is extremely difficult, if not altogether impossible.
