What are some things that would be different in Equestria compared to our World

What got me thinking this is actually quite weird.

I learned about the tragedy of the Gros Michel Banana.

Pretty much from what i understand is that the Gros Michel banana was the common type of Banana used before the 1960's when the Panama disease nearly destroyed all of them.

But that's just what got me thinking, "Hey, that probably never happened in Equestria so they wouldn't be using the Cavendish(which is the banana we mostly use nowadays)"

And i realised that this could apply to many other things as well and i was wondering if anyone had anything to add to this.

P.S. the whole banana history lesson could very well be somewhat inaccurate on my part but that's not the point.

What are some overlooked things that would be incredibly different in Equestria, whether this applies to food or anything else.

Trust me on this, there is alot more than some things that are different.

I mainly mean things that we don't usually think about.

Of course, they don't have guns or anything like that but I am trying to focus on smaller things that would be different, such as them having completely different bananas.

I think day to day to life would be different. Cartoon ponies would have different jobs then we do, for example I work in a warehouse wouldn't it be a little weird for a cartoon pony to be operating a forklift. I also know that ponies don't eat meat so that would be different. I also feel that the whole world would be different as well because pegasus control the weather and in our human world we can't control the weather. I also think that their socitey would be much different than ours, our society feeds off sex and violence last time I checked.

As yet, we have seen no hint of modern computers. They do have some level of electronics. We've seen motion picture projectors, with sound. That implies at least vacuum tube electronics and a high level understanding of chemistry. (For the film stock.) In Rarity Takes Manehatten, we see a telephone on a desk, for just a second. They don't seem to be in wide use though. Possibly just big business ponies use them. (Like in advertising, like Mad Men!) They don't seem to have wireless radio broadcasting either. That should be possible with what electronics we know them to have. Maybe it's a cultural thing. Dragons and other magical beings can send messages long distance.

Their medical science seems advanced too. We've seen x-rays of Rainbow's broken wing when she was hospitalized. My thought is that they pick and choose what type of technological advancement to use. Magic can do so much, why turn to clumsy mechanical device?

They also have airships and balloons, but so far no sign of fixed wing aircraft. Perhaps the thought of artificial wings are distasteful to both Pegasus and Alicorn. Is there a ban on fixed wing flight?

Another thing they don't seem to have is the simple vending machine. Twilight was totally stumped by one in the Human World. They do seem to have a sort of science fiction in their literature. Remember, Rainbow Dash wore a space suit  on Nightmare Night!

Here's a frightening thought. Ponies seem to have a knowledge of radioactivity. When Applebloom has Cutey Pox, we see a pony in  a radiation suit. It isn't a B.I.G. (Biological Isolation Garment) You can clearly see the radiation symbol.

That I think was INTENDED to be a BIG, the artist just got mixed up. Or rather, didn’t think the Biohazard symbol would be as recognizable.

But even without that bit, wouldn’t they still have knowledge of radiation considering x-rays exist?

I think that the radiation symbol could mean something different in Equestria than it does here.

I think in Equestria they have certain things that can only be made with a combination of magic and or other things and when created provide their own type of radiation or health hazards, and while the symbol was made for one specific reason here it could still be different there, but still an interesting thought. It could also be that in Equestria the actual well being of a pony is important, and a reason for the creation of the suits could be to help protect against potentially dangerous things like it is in our world, but in Equestria they may have been higher up on a priority list as to not take chances with anything.

And also, there is no proof of anything like this but anything could happen, and i wonder if there could be dangerous substances that are created that could either fall from space, be residue from certain magic, or even come from the everfree forest, I do like to think that there is toxic things in their world that would also warrant the use of suits, certain caves in places maybe?

In certain anime and books, it's stated that powerful mages would have secure underground vaults to test new and potentially dangerous spells. Is this why Twilight had her laboratory UNDER the Golden Oaks Library?

Here's a thought. What happened to the living orange/bird Twilight created, or the living barking teacup Trixie made? If you think about it, both are absolutely HORRIFYING! Trixie and Twilight both created life from inanimate matter. Victor Frankenstein was nothing compared to them!

Hey, maybe all magic IS some kind of radiation, so Rad Suits are perfectly sensible protection from potentially magical diseases or curses. XD

Well, Magic is one thing and Radiation is another.

Radiation is not really controllable or natural, and neither is the case in Equestria.

Also that the only suit we have seen, and i mean, curses dont get stopped by plastic and rubber. If so than Pinkie would have walked right up to Zecora when she first met her instead of being scared of a curse.

Just last night my husband looked at me like I was a nut (I am, but that's besides the point.) We were watching "I dream of Jeanie" Tony said to Jeanie "I need some light." She took the plug from the reading lamp he was experimenting with, and pointed at it. The light lit without being plugged in. I couldn't help saying "Magic can be converted to electricity!" At least for Jeanie, magic is electromagnetic in nature!

... Radiation is totally natural. The sun itself is radioactive. That’s why you get sun burns and why being in it too much can up your chances of skin cancer.

Also just because it can’t be psychically manipulated by human beings doesn’t mean that 1) ponies can’t do it and, 2) that magic isn’t still a type of radiation. Humans not being able to do it doesn’t prove either of those statements to be false.

And rad suits aren’t just plastic and rubber. They have lead, carbon, and boron to prevent radiation from getting through it.

So if we imagine magic is a type of radiation, then a rad suit would work against it.

Right, well if that were the case then we would see some Equestrian armor that is just a rad suit which we don't.

And also not to mention the idea of Magic has been around well before people actually understood that the sun was giving off radiation and that radiation was even a thing.

While i don't usually say no to anything we dont know for sure in Equestria i would say the idea of Magic being Radiation is ridiculous.

After all, Friendship is Radiation.

You know for someone being interested in theories and speculation and alternative fictional history, you’re not particularly good at listening, running with a speculation, or refuting points very well.

If you want to play theory games with people based on cartoons, try not to immediately shut down anything they think of, particularly if they’re just speculating for fun like you.

EDIT: Also your middle paragraph doesn’t make any sense. Just because people didn’t know what radiation was, doesn’t mean that radiation wasn’t there.

Magic may very well give off radiation as a by product. It would explain them having something like radiation suits. Oh, I just remembered, B.I.G.s are canon too! Rarity wore one in "Bats"

Oh, and don't go. This is a good discussion!

HEYHEY!! Haha!! I forgot about that! Then again I hated that episode so I’m not shocked.

They even got the Biohazard symbol. I like how unlike the RAD suit, they remembered to have Rarity’s tail covered. In fact that whole thing is a lot more detailed. Gotta love watching the art department get more of a budget and more animation assets.

"Bats" also let me know that ponies have actual knowledge of...SIN!

She used it in a way that really seems either improper, or it could also not be tied to an actual religion as much as it is in our world.

We still have not seen Pony religion though, and also there is a ton of Equestrian history not yet known about.

"Sin" in the way she used it makes me think that it could also be used to describe something like a crime but in a broader sense and again not having to do with religion.

On the other hand hoof, Rainbow says "fast as a bullet" in the "may the best pet win" song. This implies a knowledge of guns. Also, naming her turtle  Tortoise "Tank" because he's unstoppable, hints at some history of mechanized warfare in Equestria's past. Radiation and bio suits, guns and tanks...Equestria is starting to scare me!

(Am I overthinking things?)

Never really thought of that stuff before.

Currently, the only explanation I have would be that maybe there were early concepts of guns and tanks but since Ponies don't only focus on ways to kill each other unlike humans they saw the destructive causes of these things and made them pretty much non-existent but the sayings and names still stayed.

It is also worth noting that Twilight can create entire simulations with spells. And at one point she tried to explain something before she did this she made a magical screen grid like a computer has. Hmm. One thing I could think of that maybe ties everything together is this.

What if there are holes where their Human world leaks through to Equestria, we have seen Equestrian things leak through so why not the opposite?

This could explain a lot, also it could explain R.A.D suits, containing things from another world that you don't know the dangers of. Their Humans seem to be pretty similar to us, most likely meaning that their history leading up to current day events are similar. Who knows if we would even have high schools today if we hadn't discovered guns for some weird reason. But anyways it is possible a portal leakage of sorts could have come through allowing Equestrians to gain knowledge about human inventions and locking them away after seeing their destructive capabilities. Also, a fun thought, but Discord may have something to do with some of this.

Also we do not see most of Discord and the Princess's past, they could have explored all over different realms and dimensions and acquired certain knowledge as well. They could have taken certain concepts and seen the benefit to certain words in their language for better explanatory reasons, just another thoughts.

Perhaps in the distant past, Discord mirrored weaponry he had seen in other realms. Not just Earth. Although I really don't think that the Human World is OUR Earth. While fighting the princesses of the sun and moon, I think it would amuse him to "borrow" from other dimensions.

Maybe just for knowledge.

Discord is smart enough to have control. If everything is chaos than nothing is.

Responding to many posts.

Discord also opened that portal to a sock puppet dimension at one point and in the comics Celestia visits several other dimension.

There could also be something to the ponies abandoning weapons like guns and tanks after a few experiments and their only remaining in comics and fiction. Which may explain how impressive their viewed if they only knew them from stories like BOLO rather than actual use.

Twilight's mad scientist lab does seem to have some computation ability a sort of 1950's mad scientist vibe.

Mad Science is best science.png

Equestria is a sweet bubbly world full of pastel ponies that can be utterly terrifying if you think about it like that spore that turns the pony who breethes it in into the plant that spreads it, the flyder or the fact Twilight thought she'd need restraints to secure ponies for her experiments.

Magic is an elemental force that can only be converted not created or destroyed.
