Because the way they rule the world isn't that obvious of course...   They pay off all the politicians to do their bidding, they have almost all the money, and they are allowed to oppress the citizens of this country by out of control laissez-faire... I think it's safe to say they have a HUGE factor at least in the US.

Well, yes. I'm just saying that in a lot of cyberpunk works, corporations are powerful enough to have military forces. Heck, even outside cyberpunk, there are megacorporations that are so powerful, they're basically countries (like in this old RPG called Mutant Chronicles).

And as for powerful people ruling the world... that's normal.
