Well they were original hippogriffs, ,so I say odds are they're mammals. But then, hippogriffs are half bird, so who knows?

Remember, platypuses and echidnas are mammals and lay eggs . Then again, their hind quarters are of viviparous mammals. I wonder if they are viviparous because of that

Indeed - the relevantt parts of a griffon are lion, not bird. Or at least most likely - if they can have teeth in a beak up front, one can only speculatete as too what's in back. ,
