Is G5 more like G1 than G4?

G5 is in the same universe as G4, but as a gen, it's more like G1.

Like G5, G1 had two separate shows. One show was adventure focused (My Little Pony and Friends), and the other was slice of life (My Little Pony Tales).

I fail to see any other similarities, but then again I'm also unfamiliar with G1, so I'm unable to make any comparisons between G1 and G5.
