Windows 7 is my favorite version of Windows, it's the perfect amount of pretty aesthetics, usability, and customization. Last version I feel where you could really personalize your computer to fit yourself without having to download dozens of external applications. I'm so glad there's so many projects to use W10 to revive it.

Same here! I remember not loving the aesthetic of Windows 7 when I actually had it, but ever since I got rid of my old laptop (and especially now that I have Windows 11) I really miss it. I know that my dad still has his old Windows 7 laptop, and now I feel tempted to wipe all the dust off it and boot it up

So unfortunately, Reunion7 broke a deep system file in Windows so I would've had to reinstall the OS all over again. I got tired of doing that so I finally caved to my friends suggestion and installed Linux Mint. I have already fallen in love with it. Looks good, feels good, and everything generally runs much better!

This is what my new desktop currently looks like,

I've had this same experience with Window Blinds 11 and Winstep, having recently gone through an OS clean install I'm fairly confident either one of those UI changing apps had something to do with it as nothing goes wrong with my PC generally speaking otherwise. On my next PC build I am going over to either Ubuntu or Debian, Windows is poorly coded, and it doesn't seem to take much to corrupt the files, it doesn't take malware or a faulty drive to do it, just third party software being allowed to interfere with the system files over some weird glitch. Before my recent OS reinstall, I had a permissions error problem that disabled my ability to delete desktop shortcuts, and I am the admin of my PC so that should not have been possible. I've had it with Microsoft OS's like Windows, as there appears to be a pattern of this behaviour judging by complaints I've seen on not just this forum. If Microsoft does not want people using UI tweakers, then they should make the system UI more customizable by default.

Yeah that's the exact reason I stopped using those types of things on my gaming PC, since I'm kinda forced to use Windows on it I felt it was necessary to NOT mess with much deep system stuff. I only got that stuff on my laptop because I was under the assumption it'd be YEARS before something would break and by then I'd likely have a newer laptop. It only took like, two months apparently.

I still like to have a screensaver just for the fun of it and so I don't have a boring black screen to look at while I am listening to music. Screensavers generally work fine although they're generally useless nowadays except for perhaps testing the stability of graphics drivers, that can be done with video games and benchmarking programs though. But you're right, I won't be using Winstep or Window Blinds anymore, since each time I've used those types of apps something did go wrong with my system in a matter of a year or two.

It really is a shame that Windows 11 isn't as stable as it could be though, and depending on the theme chosen in Window Blinds 11 it crashes Media Monkey 5, I tested it repeatedly, confirmed it interferes with that app as well, a media player of all things. I've got things to sort out on my other desk before I use my Pi 5 PC for MLP forum use, most of what I use my computer for does not need anywhere near the amount of power my video games do. And it's a waste of electricity to use my high powered PC for simple tasks like web browsing and media players, for power efficiency my Pi 5 would be better used for this. I'll also enjoy using a Debian based Linus operating system. I use a high endurance SD card inside it, so it should last a while before problems start. I put all my music on an external hard drive to increase the longevity of the SD card as well. But I don't trust Windows enough to continue using it long term, for some weird reason it's not good at protecting its own files from being tampered with. With software sold on Steam like Window Blinds 11, that is inexcusable.

I like this desktop theme I put together on my Linux system, thanks to the MLP 2017 movie DVD I have a copy of. I could not do this on Windows because of the copy protection nonsense interfering with screenshots, I'm giving up with Windows altogether from now on. The final straw for me was when I could not make a screenshot of a film I paid for a licensed copy of, both for personal use and commentary on forums. Wouldn't something like that would fall under fair use? I'm not a lawyer so I don't even know for certain. Either way, Windows sucks, it is too restricted, not in terms of compatibility for software, that is not the issue, the issue is how it can be annoying to customize the look of, as evidenced by posts here. Anyhow, I enjoyed Ponyfying my Raspberry Pi 5 desktop, it has been a rewarding experience.
