A long while back I made a thread about the "best" gaming magazines, but this time I want to be much more broad. Let's discuss gaming magazines, talk about specific issues we like and maybe share images or scans of ones that we like most.  I really do miss when these were still being made. I always loved looking through them, oftentimes repeatedly and now I always get a wave of nostalgia looking back at them.

A particular favourite of mine has always been the December 2006 issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

This one was so exciting. The next-gen consoles were all in full swing. The comparison between PS3 and Wii was very well done. They proclaimed the winner to be the Wii but in retrospect, I really don't think the Wii was a good console. Had some amazing games but the console itself was...bleh, despite some cool features. At the time I loved it though. Once I got a PS3 though, my mind was on that until I got a 360 in 2011. Been Xbox person ever since.  The review for Bully on PS2 in this issue was also what convinced me to get that game.

EGM was one of my favorites growing up, though I can't remember specific articles. However I vividly remember two issues in particular that got me excited for some of my favorite franchises,

While TP ended up being one of my favorite Zeldas, Advent Children was.....eh

Game Informer was also one I remember liking as a kid, but the only thing I remember was their killer MGS2 cover

I never grew up with gaming magazines but I do have this.

It (and a handful of random workout DVD's and a copy of Duke Nukem 3D) were lodged in between a lot of loose music CD's that I bought earlier this year.

I did pop it in to my laptop to see what was on it and it had wallpapers and such, but I was more surprised the fancy 2000's software they used for it still worked on Windows 11. Animations, "keygen" music (as I call it), all of it works.

Remeber buying them, alot and some comes free with demos. My favourite are Gamemasters, it talk about Videogames of all Platforms and also Playstation Max is another I like.

My special one would be the April 2015 Playstation Magazine issue here in Brazil.

It was my first real exposure to Magazines, as before thta I'd only get to see it on waiting rooms, and was always the grandma stuff. But this was the first time I got to read a gaming magazine! And begged my mum to subscribe to it. I still have it in my room atop of my closet. I might take a look for a nostalgia trip!

A lot of games I really love nowadays I got to read them here. I discovered Hotline Miami, which is one of my favourite games, because of this Issue. I was already hyped for Bloodborne, but this made me close the sale and get it asap. Only when I had cash on my Switch I got to play Axiom Verge and was so hyped up because of this issue for so many years. It really made me expect great things from these games!

 

Anyone into gaming magazine and wants to relive those days, I highly recommend PCGamer!

Even though they do have their current online news, they have a lot of exclusive content for the magazines apparently. I rarely see any of it discussed because really who's subscribed to magazines now. I really wanna sub to it. I'm just waiting to pay off my debts to get to it.

I probably have some old 2010-2013 era Game Informer magazines sitting around in my closet. I distinctly remember this one from when Skyrim was being talked about. It’s what lead to me eventually buying it later that year when it came out.

Wow! I actually gave away my collection of Game Informer magazines the other day so this was surprising to hear.
