Wizard 1,386 November 11 Share November 11 I'm sorry if I caused unwanted stress, I couldn't get it out of my head that your first post mentioned you working for walt disney, being in uni, but your work had clear evidence of AI being used. I'm actually surprised you missed these details, especially when you said you gave those images to guests of honor at Ciderfest. I would have personally had made sure that any work I made as a gift, would not have those blemishes. Perhaps it was an oversight, but it just didn't feel right. I'm sure you understand why I thought the way I did. 1 2 1 [Animated banner by Rethajni] My Art page My twitter
K_Cast 207 November 11 Author Share November 11 I very much understand, and you have not caused any stress at all i was kind of expecting people to not be a fan of anything with AI in it. The ones I made for the guests of honor were drawn and put into finishing in a night I was not really thinking about anything but doing something nice for someone. I will also be working at Disney but I will not be animating the work myself, I will be there as a production coordinator, but I wanted to get my art skills and hands back to where they needed to be so I could do this stuff if the need came up. It was not an oversight, more then it was I was not really caring about that side, it was just a picture. If they had asked me to do one I would have not used the AI stuff at all, no one asked me to do these, my VIP at con was having a bad time and I wanted to cheer her up that was all, but I also knew the others were going to be in the same room most of the time and I didn't want them to feel left out either so I made the others of their characters. They seemed to love them, and it did brighten Misty's day as it was intended. Lastly the school has been pushing the AI stuff onto almost every class, I have used just a little bit of it because I know the work that goes into animation and the heart cannot be replicated using AI. Every class since I started has been pushing us to us AI tools, programs, even word docs for assignments, I don't do that stuff as I do think that's wrong. I have only recently started using it as a tool, but a tool alone. No one on my crew will ever be replaced by AI, there is none of it in the show, and the primary animation will be done by an anime studio that makes their cartoons in traditional 2D. I find the AI stuff interesting, I like playing with new technology, but I don't see this much different then using a 3D software, or autotweening your animations in flash. Its just a tool. I do draw the line when it comes to taking peoples jobs, and my crew know I would never do that to them. We went for a traditional animation studio to show what humans can really do, and that passion cannot be AI generated, but I wanted to see if this stuff could help me draw like I use to again. 6 minutes ago, Wizard said: I'm sorry if I caused unwanted stress, I couldn't get it out of my head that your first post mentioned you working for walt disney, being in uni, but your work had clear evidence of AI being used. Miss Price 115 November 11 Share November 11 Honestly, I just wanted to say how sad this comment made me. Accusing someone of using AI is very rude, especially when they are drawings made with love for the community. I understand how the use of AI is shaking up the world of artists. However, it is impossible to avoid its use as a tool in animations, especially in large studios. For a long time, techniques have been emerging to make the work of artists easier; for example, try painting in real life without using CTRL+Z, much more difficult, right? Whether using a reference image, AI finishing or other tools. It is still rude to accuse someone of using AI, and even to point out the "inconsistencies" that prove that it is not a hand-drawn drawing. In the same way, I can also prove some small coloring errors, which prove that it was hand-drawn. (My drawings also have them) All artists have their flaws and compensate in whatever way they can to achieve a more pleasing result for themselves or for the client. For example, I didn't take a "pony anatomy" class. So I have to disguise that by filling my drawings with details and color. Thus hiding their lack of technique and simplicity. Even if @K_Cast didn't have tunnel syndrome, he could very well use whatever tools he wanted. He's doing this work to exercise, while also wanting to provide some ponies with art of their beloved O.Cs. It's a gesture of kindness that should be encouraged and not judged. Even though the "Power Chord" drawing isn't my O.C., I was very happy to see it, I loved its personality and color palettes. It even motivated me to practice drawing a little (Especially of an O.C. of mine called "Punk Cake"). I'm really excited to see how @K_Cast would do my character and her colors, and I believe the rest of the community would too. I hope this incident doesn't discourage you, because what MLP taught me was the magic of friendship, and I believe that your kindness and talent will please more ponies than it will irritate them. Thank you for your kindness to the MLP community PS. Sorry if the text seems confusing, English is not my main language.

I agree with this sentiment, if he was doing it to try something new and help with art until his hand got better, then I understand, he did not mean it with any ill intent and just wanted to expand horizons. I have used AI for fun before and an AI image is actually how my ponysona ended up being developed, I took elements like the colors from it and used it to make Saturn, over the years the design was fleshed out and I now happily have a ponysona of 4 years and have no intention of replacing her. And most of the elements were draw by K_Cast himself, despite his injuries, that takes some perserverance.

K_Cast 207 November 11 Author Share November 11 Ok so I'm done, I started making the first OC characters the other day and simply put I cannot draw like I use to and I was ashamed of what I drew so I took them into an AI program to make something you deserved. I am going to finish everyones character myself, without using AI at all, the quality will not be there but at least it will be me. I'm sorry to anyone this might have affected, I just wanted to draw again, but I picked the wrong path and got help, in the end I just let the AI do the work as I could no long do it. Nothing was stolen, it took a good deal of work to get the characters to look right, and I did have to go in and hand draw a bunch of parts, but I just wanted to make something to make you happy. I have been drawing, and writing for most of my life, and it hurt that I could no long do what I loved so I took a short cut. If you want to cancel me, or demonize me then go for it. I made a bad decision personally, and I'm already looking into options to replace me as head director of Eqt. I helped build a lot of animations for conventions, and even poniverse when it was jsut getting its start. I helped start this network with Feld0 and the others, I helped start Everfree and several other things aswell back when I could be of use in that area. Many years of art and real work has destroyed my body to the point where I cannot even draw for more than an hour without having a lot of pain. If you still want the OC artwork I will draw them by hand from here on out, if not fill free to cancel the forum post. I cannot take back what I did, but I can try to make it right for those effected. but if you want nothing more to do with me I understand, I have had a good 14 year run. Thanks everyone and im sorry to let you all down 2 2

Thanks everyone and im sorry to let you all down It sounds like you’re beating yourself up. Any attempt to draw an OC is appreciated, even if you’re ashamed or embarrassed by it - you need not compare to the works to AI and how it appears. It sounds like your inner perfectionist is taking control. We tend to be our own worst critics, you know? We’re here to be supportive of each other. Not to berate and make fun of someone’s art - which, we value and appreciate in all of its shape or form. So, please be gentle with yourself. Completing all of the requests by hand is ill advised if someone has a bad wrist, best not to aggravate it further. Using AI is not an offense in and of itself, it is the lack of disclosing such a tool that may raise some eyebrows in the community. For your health, the combination of AI and your art is perfectly fine, the thread will simply have to be moved into the appropriate section. Moderation has already been discussing to do so for the past 5 days but as now there is more clarity in the use of such tools, then it would make sense to allow them to do so now. That way you don’t have to put so much pressure on your wrist or health and you can allow the AI to assist you with your creativity. With that said, thank you so much for taking the time to do this for the community. Everyone loves to see their lovely OCs come to life. 4
