random question but what browser do you use?

I use Firefox on my Mac and Safari on my iPhone. Here's an explanation for all you tech nerds :3

Spoiler

Firefox on desktop because it's open source, so I can customize things however I like. Currently all I've implemented are just visual customizations (e.g. tab border curves, alignment of buttons, stuff like that), but I'm definitely gonna do more in the future.

Safari on my iPhone because Safari is the best browser for iPhone. All browsers are forced to use Apple's Webkit engine on iOS, so Chrome, Edge, Firefox.....all of them are just reskinned versions of Safari. In my opinion, Safari has the best UI among browsers on iPhone, and it isn't really missing anything important.

Nice! I used to use Chrome on my laptop as well but modern Chromium (the engine used by Chrome, Edge, Opera, and all mainstream browsers besides Firefox and Safari) is basically the G5 of the browser world lol

I'm only allowed to use Chrome on my laptop lol. Company is pretty strict

Really?? Google has terrible privacy practices and I’ve only seen companies force their employees to not use Chrome. I’ve never heard of a company restricting their employees to exclusively Chrome. That’s really interesting! :D

Eh, it's an above me decision lol. Somebody who probably makes a lot more than I do made that call.

I use Chrome because I'm just too used to it but now that you mention I might go back to Firefox after so many years. :muffins:

Another con of Chrome is that it's a RAM blackhole hahaha, especially if you open several tabs.

I keep chrome installed just for website testing, otherwise it’s going straight in the bin. I really hate Chrome (except for the UI. Chrome is the most beautiful browser in my opinion)

firefox ftwwwwwwwww its really hard to go back to chrome after having switched to firefox and stayed for a year+ now. plus i like having adblockers on youtube. XD

I completely agree!! Firefox is the best in everything (except for UI it’s one of the worst lol). I switched about six months ago after the manifest v3 update (the one that screwed ad blockers on Chrome)

honestly i like its UI more than chrome. partially because its more customizable with extensions and stuff. but also because im probably just used to it by now xP. even when i first used firefox though i didnt have much issues with its ui, i just wasnt used to it yet.

The thing that I really love about Firefox is the customizability. Because it's open source, I can do anything I want with the UI, and that genuinely made it more beautiful for me. If you do a bit of research on Google you'll learn that creating a userChrome.css file and adding some code to it will make a huge difference. For example, this is my default Firefox:

Screenshot2025-01-29at4_27_55PM.thumb.png.3206868fd1d1cf9371633fc85a89fca1.png

And this is my Firefox after adding some code to userChrome.css:

These little differences are a make-or-break experience for me, and I'm really glad that I changed Firefox. I've added my userChrome.css to this post in case anyone here wants to use it for their own themes :mlp_wink:

P.S. this link explains where to create your userChrome.css file. The location matters so it's crucial that you put it in the right place.

That's an interesting choice! Why do you prefer Firefox on your phone?

Because it allows me to install add-ons, including my favorite ad blocker (uBlock Origin).

I've been using Firefox for like two decades now and see no reason to change.
