How to brush out matted brushables?

Hello everypony! :mlp_yeehaa: I tend to buy most of my figures second hand, thus a lot of them have frizzy or matted hair. I've tried using conditioner, but I couldn't get this one Luna brushable to look good.. Is it doomed or is there any saving of it? :(

i have no idea! but i looked around a bit and found this :3 hope it helps. from what i'm reading, it's really hard to do right since it's plastic? and a lot of methods involve heat to a degree, so you need to be REALLYREALLYREALLY careful not to melt it. i have two methods. the second method is one i found for barbie hair which might work.

FIRST METHOD

1. Softening with Hot Water:
Dunk the pony's mane and tail in boiling water (briefly, about 10-20 seconds) to soften the hair and make it more pliable.
Be careful not to submerge the pony's face or any plastic parts that might melt or damage.

2. Detangling:
Use a fine-tooth comb or a wet brush specifically designed for detangling hair, and start at the ends and work your way up.
Continue dunking the hair in hot water and combing until most of the tangles are gone.
If you have a wire pet brush, it can also be helpful.

3. Washing and Conditioning:
Wash the hair with a mild shampoo (baby shampoo is a good option) and rinse thoroughly.
Apply a small amount of mild, unscented conditioner, especially on the ends, and comb it through.
Leave the conditioner in for a few minutes, then rinse and comb again.

4. Additional Tips:
Fabric softener can also be used to help detangle and soften the hair.
If you are struggling with frizzy hair, you can use a flat iron on the lowest setting to smooth it out.
If the hair is still matted, you may need to carefully cut out the damaged sections.

SECOND METHOD

1. First, gently detangle the doll’s artificial hair with your fingers, separating strands as best as you can.
2. Wash out any dirt with warm water.
3. Next, gently massage in a small amount of hair conditioner.
4. Working in small amounts, gently come through the doll’s hair, working your way around her head until all the hair is combed through.
5. Spray in hair detangler to increase the hair’s softness.
6. Next, thoroughly rinse the doll’s hair with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water to produce a super shiny finish.
7. Follow by a final rinse with warm water.
8. Finally, style your doll’s hair any way you’d like.
