One of the longest-lasting questions in mlp history: what does Miss Element of kindness do to earn bits, what does she do for money? Don't worry, we don't need serious answers, for all we know, Discord just teleports a buncha gems for her to sell on a regular basis so she can earn a living cause Discord believes the best pony should not be poor.

She was a supermodel for a while so I'm sure that it was good for her financially. S1 E20 I think that was, it very early in the show.

Before that, who knows. Maybe she helped Dr. Fauna part time with sick and injured animals. I can't imagine her doing much of anything else for money.

She also generally seems very frugal so financially she'd be fine either way.

Oh and Rarity probably compensates her because she likes using Fluttershy for modeling.

There was also the one episode where Fluttershy ran one of Rarity's clothing boutiques for a day.

I'm probably missing some other things but that's off the top of my head.

This means taking care of animals is treated the same way as weather manipulation. It would suggest there's a budget for that, which comes from the taxpayers' money, and ponies who care about the animals, like Fluttershy, are paid from that budget. Some things she does seem to be directly related to this job, like the "official bunny census" in "Applebuck Season".

Another thing is that she sometimes does some favors for her friends related to taking care of their pets, like she does with Opalescence in "Stare Master". It's possible that she gets some money for that as well.
