Question on the forbidden subject.

Why is it the forums have the ability to add a dozen new mods in a day to patrol the forums, but couldn't promote a few people to take over the watchduty on chat so mods could chill elsewhere?

In fact, chat EASILY could've been saved if we bothered to add a few chat mods so the real mods wouldn't be bothered with the duty.

So thus, we'd promote a few mods, they'd spend their time chilling in chat and enforcing the rules, and the other mods aren't bothered. But we didn't do that, yet we can easily add a dozen janitors to the site?

As for the quality of chat, that could've been fixed with a few banhammers.

I don't understand these forums sometimes.

Eww, chat. I don't care about mod numbers, if you'd like to chat, go to Skype or another off-site location, imo. Not having a site that drags people into sitting and talking about whatever and not having quality discussion is a great thing to have happened to this place.

If anything, the death of chat caused the quality discussions to drop because people took their rambling and spam into the forums.

Not sure where you're looking, but I see plenty of good discussion. And as you say yourself, 'As for the quality of chat, that could've been fixed with a few banhammers.' The problem with chat for me is that it draws attention away from posting because it is it's own little entity for interacting. Every single forum I've ever been on this is exactly what happens.

When you know why it was closed, and see that it's basically the same reason that's been used on every forum you've been on before, you don't need to be there first-hand :3

No it doesn't. It promotes user activity and community interaction, along with forging friendships (that's where I met Finest, moose, swift, etc). I've had far more fun and made far more friendships through chat than the forums.

Not to mention that if a person sees a topic they like, they'll post in it regardless, and a topic will be formed if it's interesting or good enough for long term discussion. Hell, if a person decides to take their topic into chat, then the topic wouldn't have been good enough for forum material anyway.

All chat does is take away the pointless topics and ridiculous rambling by letting users spill out little discussion ideas.

Yes you do. isn't this the forum you, along with everyone else, says is "different from teh rest of the interwebs!!!1"

That's...but...

That doesn't even apply here.

Yes it does :3 You have your opinion on how chat works and what it's effects are, and I have mine. I have no interest in debating with you, or anyone else here. It's not my thing. I gave my two cents, gave some immediate responses, and that's all I plan on doing ^^

No thanks, I like giving my opinion on the subject at hand. I'm entitled to do that, without inherently dooming myself to get into a heated debate.

Why is it the forums have the ability to add a dozen new mods in a day to patrol the forums, but couldn't promote a few people to take over the watchduty on chat so mods could chill elsewhere?

Because the addition of mods was for the influx of new members joining NOW, not THEN, so keeping up with the bullshit in the forums is gonna be a bit of work? Not too sure.

In fact, chat EASILY could've been saved if we bothered to add a few chat mods so the real mods wouldn't be bothered with the duty.

Which would've be as effective as adding more mods to the forums to clean up the bullshit. People will find it unnecessary.

So thus, we'd promote a few mods, they'd spend their time chilling in chat and enforcing the rules, and the other mods aren't bothered. But we didn't do that, yet we can easily add a dozen janitors to the site? As for the quality of chat, that could've been fixed with a few banhammers.

Actually, that did happen, with the addition of Arylett, Nico and King K. Roop (I don't remember his name, and I don't care right now), but that didn't work either. And the quality of the chat, as far as I'm concerned, won't be fixed ever. Why? Two reasons.

-People won't listen to these rules about being serious in a chat (unless its on something like religion or love or something)

-The Mods are too lax

Simple answer: Even with two dozens moderators, we can't really expect the chat room will be supervised 24/7. Unless you managed to hire at least five people to specifically do so, it's damn impossible. That's why even with this many mods, it won't do any good to look after that horrible spamfest of a chatroom

Quality answer: Chat suxx

That's right; you won't be doomed to a heated debate.

I'll just put it like this:

You weren't around when chat was around.

There, no heated debate.

Eww that chat we had actually pushed me away from it and made me go post on the forums because of how bad it was.

There coul've been 100 chat mods and I still would not have used it.

I only had 1 nice conversation on it once because there were only 4 people in the room at the time.

Let us maintain a respectful tone, please. This does not need to become a heated debate (nor should it).

Just a reminder to be civil.

I agree, the chat got out of whack the last few weeks, they should've gotten more mods, heck, created a rank for chat mods.

Of course not, but the chat room doesn't need much, if any, supervision when America sleeps, because the majority of the forums is American and that's not an "America ftw comment", and as I said earlier, chat was an essential step towards creating a higher community and removing spam from the forums. Have you noticed that ever since the death of chat, the quality of forum topics has dropped DRASTICALLY?

yeah, chat was a bit wild the last few weeks of its existance, but the forums shut it down. Hell, maybe these months of chat death was all it needed. Perhaps if we assign the active, obedient chat members mod duties and make chat a bit more strict, it would save it.

What I fail to understand is why the quality of chat even matters. Who cares if we shout "holla holla get $"? If we have fun doing it, we should be damn well allowed to do it! If you don't like it, don't join it! Once again, I formed A LOT of friendships through chat, and since the death of it I've met, what, two members I continue to privately talk to? Compared to the dozen or so I met in chat?

Actually, when the 'Americans' asleep, the chat demon awakes. There is no daily hour limitation or anything whatsoever

Really really, I often visited the chat at afternoon (I'm in SEA, so when the Americans asleep, I got the full wrath of the midday sun), the chaos ensued can only be rivalled with Discord's bath tub.

Unless you can absolutely say that when the sun goes down and all of the Americans will surely get off from the computer simultaneously that is.

For silly talks and generally random mumbo-jumbo, we got Cloudsdale.

It's not about whether we got chat or not, it's more about whether those spammer want to search any appropriate outlet or what.

This forum is on a constant decline since forever. Your argument is invalid

For one thing, Cloudsdale is shit for "silly talks". LOL POST A NUMBER!!1

How about we imagine it like this:

The actual forums is like a gentleman's club where we discuss all things prim and proper, yes yes?

And the chat is like a pub, where we go to joke around, not have quality debates about the multiverse theory.
