Nightfall lay back and made the bed into a sitting position. He sat there, looking at nothing in particular. "I was saying that things aren't how they were, Blade.." he looked her straight in the eyes.

It was very very late at night. Valiant was drunkenly walking the streets of the city. He had a bottle of hard liquor in his hand and in his other he had a gun. He walked into back alley where he couldn't be seen. POP! Then a shadowy figure disappeared among the rooftops....from that night on they never saw Valiant again...

"I'm not dreaming now am I?" Fine frantically thought to himself, staring at the two. "Verdammt, man. Have some decency..." he turned away and tried to sleep. He just hoped they kept the noise down...

Vinyl sat on the bed, next to Nightfall, "I know they aren't, and I wish it could be back to the way things were, before this damned war," she said as she looked longingly into the handsome stallion's eyes.

Nightfall looked at Vinyl right in the eyes. He could just barely see Fine, so when Fine rolled over, he laughed a bit and broke eye contact.

"Sorry, Vinyl," he said as he looked back into his eyes. He thought of what happened, that he was still alive, and he smiled.

Striker sat in the middle of the room, a white, lifeless room covered from head to toe in cushions, Striker thought about the different ways he could get out, but realized the straight jacket they put on him would diminish any chance of escape on his own.

But maybe... thought Striker. Maybe I can use the help from some pony else...

Outside of Striker's room was a guard who stood watch to make sure that Striker did not get out. Striker formulated a plan. He started to run around the room in a insane fashion screaming for help, "HELP GUARD HELP! I'M BLEEDING, DAMN IT!"

Vinyl pulled the curtain between the beds shut and whispered, "Look, I'm not trying to get you to love me again. I just thought that you would still have feelings for me."

"I honestly don't know, Blade." Nightfall blushed and looked down. "I just... Don't know..." He mumbled the last two words. "Maybe I do still have feelings for her... But what would everyone think -Forget them." "Um... Blade? I... Uh... I... Yes." Nightfall looked up, blushing so badly it would be hard to miss it.

The guard alerted another, who came to the door to make sure he didn't escape. "Remember, the boss-lady said he was tricky and insane." When he got in and subdued the crazed pony, the guard realized that he wasn't bleeding. He knew that this one would be more trouble than he was worth, so he took him outside the Ponygon, "I don't want you comin' back, or I'll kill you myself. You undastand dat?"

Vinyl looked at Nightfall, her happiness returned, "So you do have feelings for me! I knew that even time couldn't have changed that. It's been a pretty lonely year for me, you know."

As Vinyl looked at Nightfall, her happiness returned. "So you do have feelings for me! I knew that even time couldn't have changed that. It's been a pretty lonely year for me, you know."

"Has it?" Nightfall found himself taking interest in what she was saying. Minutes ago, he had not really cared. "Something either wasn't right before, or it isn't right now."

"I'm flattered, Blade." Nightfall blushed again. "I knew I had an influence on many ponies, but I never knew I had that kind of influence on some..." Nightfall faded his sentence out. He was getting nervous and shy for no reason. Or was it because he was talking with Vinyl Blade herself?

"Yes, I know. It's cheesy, but you were the one I felt comfortable to talk to, to... well just to be with, I guess. I missed those stormy nights when I couldn't sleep and you'd come and relax me." ((This is not supposed to be corrupted, so get your head out of the gutter and stop clopping))

"To tell the truth, I kind of missed those nights too..." Nightfall had been blushing almost the whole time. He could no barely keep a steady eye with the general.

"And I know you only see me as a general of an opposing military, but that's not how I see you. I see you as an old friend, someone I was close to. I just wish you could see me the same way," she said with her southern accent really coming through.

"I don't know how I think anymore..." Nightfall lay down and closed his eyes. "I remember everything we did together. It seems so long ago... I still remember you as a friend, Blade. I didn't really want to forget that. It was just my military instinct telling me we were fighting each other..."

Thud. Thud. Thud. The repeated sound of a pony kicking a tree. Thud. Thud. Thud.

As you may have guessed, this pony was on Sweet Apple Acres. This pony was working at the harvest, and working hard at that. Ponyville was in flames, but once repairs were over, the next most important thing was the harvest, and it had to be attended to.

Thud. Thud. Thud. The apples finally fell into the designated baskets, and the pony took great pains to load them into a wagon, which the large Red Pony called Big Macintosh pulled away. Wits didn't really know him well, but he seemed nice enough. His thoughts were rarely expressed, but it was clear they were very profound. That pony certainly knew a lot more than he let on, and Wits' endless blathering about metaphysics subtly interested him, if only detectable by the occasional twitch of the head or thoughtful nod.

It was kind of them to rescue him. The woods adjoining Sweet Apple Acres could be dangerous, and he could've been attacked, especially if an opportunistic battalion had taken it upon themselves to find out just how much Equestria Daily's war correspondent was worth.

Thud. Thud. Thud. They had been surprised by his request, to be sure, but he felt it was necessary. Either Nightfall was dead or captured, and Wits highly doubted they would expend so much effort to save a pony marked for death. So he would train, and train, and train, until he was strong enough to take care of the situation herself. The first step was building up basic endurance, and the harvest was two birds with one stone. His muscled pulsed and burned, but they assured him that was a good thing, so he kept going, kick after kick after kick. Soon enough, he would be ready. But he needed something, something he was missing...

-----------

Say what you will about Celestia, but do not call her stupid. She can plan and plot and scheme with the best of them. So, when she heard that Nightfall was captured, her first reaction was not to send in the cavalry, or even negotiate a trade. No, she wanted something much more... precise.

"Get for me..." she said, thoughtfully, to a military, a nervous young pony wearing large glasses. Poor dear, she was horrified of her boss. And with good reason, she was the controller of the mightiest forces in the universe, the sun and the empire of such.

"Get me that soldier. The one who pushed through the security patrol. And..." She would regret this move, she just knew it. "Get me Combat Specialist Sunburn."

"Ma'am," said the aide shakily, "Sunburn is under court martial for unnecessary-"

"I know," Celestia interrupted, nearly giving the young one a heart attack. "But this... is more important. Offer him amnesty in return for results." Say what you would about Sunburn, but results were one thing he was good at.

She lied down next to Nightfall and laid her hoof across his chest. "I feel exhausted, but I don't know exactly why." She laid silent for a while, looking into his eyes every once in a while.

"I wouldn't have an answer... I'm not a doctor." He looked her in the eyes and thought about how tired he was. But it had been a busy day. Going into battle, getting shot several times, getting captured, and remeeting an old friend had sapped his energy.

"Oh Luna. I'm so tired. Do you mind if I sleep here?"

"No, I don't... In fact, here." Nightfall took his blanket and put it over Blade. "I don't need this."

"Thank you," she said. She yawned and then pulled the covers up to her nose. "Goodnight," her voice was slightly muffled by the covers.

Atum ran as fast as he could, hearing that he had been called by Celestia herself. As he neared the guards once again, he thought it would be hilarious if they resisted again, but this time they were waiting for him. Entering the throne room, Atum saw Celestia in all her glory. He couldn't believe the Princess had asked for him, after making such a fool out of himself. He walked up to her and bowed,

"Sargent Atum reporting for duty your highness."

"Goodnight." Nightfall petted her mane. It was soft, and felt good one his hooves. He lay the, looking at the tired Blade.

As he entered, he noticed another pony in there. His mane was disheveled, a grim beard had grown across his muzzle, and his expression was extremely dark, with a wicked sense of determination on his face. Upon seeing Atum, he glanced over him once or twice, then chuckled in a sense of twisted bemusement. He muttered some half-heard joke to himself, then faced the Princess once more.

"NIghtfall has been captured." Celestia could be soft or gentle when she wanted, but there was no time. She spat it out, and gave a second for it to sink in. "I want you an Sunburn to rescue him. Kill everypony in your path, unless they are one of the Elements of Harmony. Capture those, if possible, or deter them as necessary. "You will have whatever you need. All prior punishments will be removed upon successful completion of this mission, with a promotion also granted." She shot a sharp glare at Sunburn. "Do NOT kill this Sergeant. I have further need of him." With that disturbing message, she sent them off to be prepared for their mission.

Shaken by the bizarre comment Celestia made, Atum realized that his fears were true, every pony wanted to hurt him or worse wanted him dead. But he had to try to suppress his paranoid fears and move forward; nightfall had been captured and Celestia wanted him and this sunburn pony to rescue him. Turning to sunburn, Atum studied the pony trying to determine what was going through his head.

"So, well. We. Well. I guess we should leave now." Atum stared at the ground, trying to avoid sunburn's stare.
