Fiction idea

So, while in the skype chat today, an idea popped into my head.

I was thinking about a fiction involving Spike leaving the safety of Twilight's home to venture out into the world to find himself.

Somewhat like the premise of Dragon Quest, but there is a major difference.

Spike is not leaving to find Dragons, Spike is leaving to find the adventure and excitement in live he craves so much.

Tired of being cramped and pushed around in Ponyville, he leaves a note behind to say farewell to his friends, and he is off to find what makes a young Dragon into an Adult.

So, I would like if you guys could bounce some ideas with me, as I only have this short section thought out. What would he run into, what would he find, things like that.

All help appreciated.

Yes, and make him return when all the ponies he knew are already dead. I know it´s obvious because dragons live for xxxxxxxx years, but I want that moment when he realizes there are no more ponies :P

Try to try again

To see yourself again from time to time.

First question that I would ask myself (if I were writing it) how is he going to get "there"?

Train is decent but doesn't allow for much action or drama, but more of a filler where he can look back on memories of why he's doing this and his thoughts on his decisions about it.

He could go by foot, but there's multiple paths you could take, he could hit the road and follow it's winding path, though no doubt it would lead to the next town, or he could risk life and limb by trekking through the Everfree forest, but I wouldn't suggest that in my opinion because he's just a kid, and it'd be hard to give much t him in defense rather than run or evade his pursuer. I think if you wen this way it gives you more literary sandbox space to work, there's much more that could happen by chance or coincidence.

One other random idea could be Pinkie's hot air balloon, it'd be interesting to use as well as using that as one of his first over coming obstacles such as the balloon becoming punctured, or running low on full, or heck even crashing into a mountain side.

Random thoughts I had going through my head as I was typing out ideas of travel.

Depending on what you chose his traveling style to be, what do you want the over all feel of the story to be? We know that it's going to be an adventure, and based on that he's going to learn something about himself that he didn't expect to learn or something about someone else. Based on that you'd have limited options on who you'd want to introduce to the main circle of characters that you'd want participating in the story actively, I say that because if you're going to focus on spike, you'd want him to get a majority of "air time" rather than secondary characters. So I guess I'm tying in the circle of characters you'd find suitable for your story, as well as other than the story being adventure, what else are you looking for the story genre to be.
