OptimisticNeighsayer 479 August 3, 2012 #1 Share August 3, 2012 What are the things that you tend to pay most attention to in any given episode of MLP:FiM? For me, it's the characterization of the players in relationship to each other and the development of the plot in relationship to the moral. Oftentimes I find myself playing a game of trying to make sense of the sometimes inconsistent behaviors of the characters in the show, especially in relationship to previous episodes, and trying to figure out what a call a "polyphony of morals" that not only enable me to expand on the morals finally expressed at the end, but to also critique the way it gets there. So... I'm sure others have plenty of different ways of looking at the show, and I think it might help me gain a new perspective. Hablo español--Je parle français--日本語を話す--我说中文--...and sarcasm (yeah right!) I compose music. Six Pony Rags
Finesthour 7,289 August 3, 2012 #2 Share August 3, 2012 How do I approach the show? Umm... ok? I see the show as... a show that comes out on saturdays, and I discuss it with my friends. Not much more going on with that.
Gone for good 1,593 August 3, 2012 #3 Share August 3, 2012 (edited) I don't approach the show in any fancy way; I just watch it. Sure the show's art, and anybody who argues otherwise is a fool, but not all art should be viewed as ultra thoughtful, life changing, morally straight, or whatever weird and crazy things I've heard people describe to me as what art should be, and most if not all Saturday morning cartoons don't fit the bill, mlp being no exception. That being said, however, I find the show to be extremely well done and while I did just say that you shouldn't view the show as something much more, it sure is fun to do so and I wrote an essay in my psychology class about Pinkie Pie (right after the one about Hitler, too)! I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here
Twilight Yagami 16 August 3, 2012 #4 Share August 3, 2012 In the beginning I struggled to go in with the mentality that I was not just watching a girls show but a fun cartoon that I could enjoy just like any other. Of course now it's very easy for me to maintain this mentality. That's pretty much it; I don't really approach the show with much else. I'll take a cupcake...AND EAT IT! NavelColt 22,883 August 3, 2012 #5 Share August 3, 2012 The characters, and how they act, and interact with each other. I'm always on the lookout for ponies acting cute, or doing things that I know I'll remember and appreciate about them.
Zerul 555 August 3, 2012 #6 Share August 3, 2012 Well when an episode is playing I normally try to deeply analyze whats going on in hope to find Easter eggs or something interesting "Why, am I not royal enough for you? Don't you know who I am?" Ooh! Ooh! More guessing games! Um... Pokey Smokes! How about Queen Meanie? No! Black Snooty, Black Snooty!
Jinx 2,292 August 3, 2012 #7 Share August 3, 2012 I approach it with an open mind, and currently with the mindset that I'll enjoy it and start laughing multiple times. It still hasn't failed on that account. First viewing is met with an open mind, the viewings that come after are where I analyze it and pick up on what's really going on in the show. cuteycindyhoney 13,317 August 5, 2012 #9 Share August 5, 2012 How do I approach the show? I SLOWLY stalk my DVD player. I creep up on it and...POUNCE! I slip in the DVD I burned, and start it playing. Then, I sit down, face the screen and watch ponies! Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!
