Good Writing Exercises?

I need some writing practice and was wondering some good ways to go about it. I seem to have trouble getting the words to flow sometimes.

Best practice of writing, huh?

WRITE.

If you're having trouble, just try to push past it and just go for it. Get a good editor behind your back to proof-read it then.

That's what I do and it works really well.

Improve grammar to be perfect 110% if it's not already. Increase your vocabulary. Use lots of imagery. LOTS. And most of all, revise until you don't think you can revise anymore; then, get someone to read it, get their opinions, and REVISE AGAIN.

It's the same thing with Art or Music.

Well, if you're having trouble getting your words to flow, you can hide that by using good words.

Have a thesaurus handy, my friend, if your words sound good in the beginning, it will save you a lot of time when you don't need to edit.

So here's what I do. I take a pencil and a bunch of paper. Like, 900+ pages. Now hold it in one hand. Now, extend your arm out as far as you can, and hold the paper stack for as long at you can, Now write a short story on it while holding it. Yup. Totally legit.

All you have to do to gett better at writing/literature is just to write more! :D Try writing some poems, different writing styles that fit you better, and just write stories you'd like to post an a Fan fic or a comic. All you have to do to get better at writing is basically just write more and try to improve with learning new things! I used to write horribly, but now I write long-hand /print/cursive and it looks Fancy as Buck. Even though most other kids my age can't read it, everyone else finds it much easier to read and it's much faster to write long-hand to me honestly. Try finding a type of writing you like and practice.

I had the same problem and my mom set me up with a writing challenge. It's literally a challenge for people who are aspiring to become writers, but are struggling a little. The very first challenge is the one I give to you. It's silly and ridiculous I know, but you'd be amazed at just how much it helps. Your first challege is to....(drumroll please)....: Write a Break-up Letter to Writer's Block. I kid you not. When I first heard it I was confused, but I started writing/typing and don't think to much about what you write. A good writer only thinks when he has to describe scenery or a fight. And by the time they describe the fight I promise you they are dancing around their studio acting it out to see what works. My mom does it all the time. She's even published, however she's not widely known but I know she will get there soon. Happy Challenge!

My personal way I practice writing is Roleplaying. It forces me to write a lot and to think a little quicker, not to mention it's a great way to get ideas rolling. Try it :)

Funny thing is, my writing skills develop more when I roleplay. Sounds ridiculous, but RPing requires you to use more fluent and detailed writing, while thinking up of stuff on the spot.
