The Producer of "Pony Paranormal" stood on the top of a set of wooden stairs that led to the entrance to The House of Four Dimensions. The mansion was in a wooded aria, miles from the nearest house. The mansion behind him redefined the word large. Even in its old age, the sheer size of the building brought beauty and splendor, but a closer look revealed mossy, slowly rotting wood, and chipped paint. It was a miracle that the house could even still stand.

 

The Producer looked to the show's crew, only four ponies, but more where expected later in the night. The Producer began a speech similar to what he said before the last episode, "This is The House Of Four Dimensions. Learn it, know it, love it. It was supposedly built nearly two hundred years ago on something called a Hell Mouth. That means that as far as our simple minded viewers are concerned, this building is on top of a portal to Hell!" He pulled a sheet of paper out of his sattlebag. "Let's see," he said as he read the sheet, "Theirs something here about a war... Time slows down while you're inside... mysterious illness... and... oh my, I don't think I should read that part." He shoved the paper back in his bag. "Well, I guess you should be able to get an episode out of this. Any questions?" He walked down the stairs as he finished talking.

Lapis Lazuli stared up at the foreboding building. He had seen strange things before, but the idea of 'ghosts' made him skeptical. Asteria felt a shiver of fear run down her spine when the Producer described the house. "So, uh, mister producer, what will we be doing inside this place?" Asteria asked. It wasn't that she was afraid, just uncertain of their goal. Lapis gave a bored sigh. He hoped they could get inside soon. The sooner he proved this place wasn't haunted, the sooner he could write his article.

"Heh... That was one encouraging speech there, chief." mumbled Star, as he tried to keep his balance while holding all of the filming equipment. "...Not like I need any kind of encouragement though." That was his first time working with the Pony Paranormal crew. He couldn't fight back his fear, but he was also very curious about the insides of the house. His last attempts of capturing paranormal activities resulted in failures. But he was confident with this one, as the producers kept it such a mystery until then.

Spotted Rich finished eating the apple that had cost him the last few bits he had and threw the core into the unkept garden. He wasn't used to any kind of real work, but Daddy had cut him off... again, and one took what one could get. He pulled on the saddle bag containing the camera he'd be using and waited at the rear of the group for the producer to answer the purple pony's question.

Quillusion stood around watching the others. This was just the kind of house to be haunted, old, mysterious, and definalty worn down. OH she could not wait to get started and find out what might be in the house, even if might be scary. Let's just hope this not go like some of my storys.

"Good question, Asteria!" The producer said with faked enthusiasm, "The viewers want to see real ghosts. No more of those creepy noises or fake psychic readings. They want to see a full body apportion! So, what I want you to do, is find some way to fake it. Maybe have your partner hide in the shadows and play pretend, I don't care. Now if that's all the questions, get on inside. I'll be back in the morning, 6:00 AM sharp. It's already nine, so get to work!" He waited for last minute questions.

Rich was satisfied with the answer. They were there to entertain, not document or educate. No close ups of ponies talking to empty rooms. Shots of furniture moving by it's self or a ghostly image created through some unicorn magic and in the morning he'll take the train to Trottingham. Spotted Rich pulled the camera out of his saddle bag and reacquainted himself with the controls.

Lapis rolled his eyes. 'Hide in the shadows'? Well, this house was old and full of secrets, so it couldn't be that useless an endeavor. Asteria psyched her self up for the mansion. She didn't care if the producer just wanted them to fake ghosts. This place smelled of adventure, she could feel it. "So, you just want us to go in there, and pretend there are supernatural entities inside?" Lapis asked with restrain disinterest. "Well, that's fine, I guess. Now, how would you like me to go about presenting it?" At this point, Lapis gave up trying to see this as an educational expedition. If he was going to do this investigation only for the entertainment of the viewers, he'd might as well try not to bore the audience.

The Producer had already began to leave. "Just make it scary!" He said, "The audience doesn't care unless somepony's life is in danger." He continued walking until he was out of sight.

 

The paranormal team was left alone with the ominous house. The house had three floors, plus a basement, and over a hundred rooms. Surprisingly, none of the house's windows were broken, despite its age.

"If you're going to have trouble, maybe the pegasus should be in front of the camera instead?" Rich nodded to Shooting Star's acting cutie mark. It wasn't like him to point out other people's strengths, but to make fun of the Earth pony and point out an obvious flaw in the producer's casting at the same time was too good an opportunity to miss. He climbed the stairs and opened the front door.

A cold air rushed from the inside of the house. It was more than just cold air, it was something more, something evil. The living room was almost as big as an entire house. It had two spiral stair cases on opposite sides of the hallway door that lead to the second floor.

Lapis surveyed the interior of the house. "Alright, I'll be taking the lead, you two just provide back up observations." he said, motioning to the other two investigators, Quillusion and Asteria. "You two just keep the cameras focused on the surroundings." Asteria eagerly went into the house, ignoring the unusual chill. "This place is so neat. Where do you think we should look first?" she called back to the others.

Quilluison walked in and looked around. "This definatly has that mysterious feel to it." She said, studying the furnature. "I bet that if we really wanted to make it scary, the best spot would be the basement." This was definatly the kind of house in those scary books she read.

Spotted Rich looked around the room with his camera, looking out for anything that might upgrade his train ticket to first class. The moment the door closed, Rich whistles a few spooky notes. Glancing at the faces of his companions, he tried to gauge their reactions.

They want to go to the basement. Then they will meet with her.

 

A door formed in the shadows bellow the stairs that had not been there before. It had a crude sign painted on it that said BASEMENT. Behind it was a stairwell that reached into the basement.

"Well, this place certainly seems scary, yes? Alright team, let's head to the basement." Lapis said, looking towards one of the cameras. Asteria scoped out the basement door. She felt it hadn't been there before, but that feeling passed rather quickly. "Okay, it'll be fun poking around down in the dark, spooky, mysterious basement." she said, hoping that would play up the decision to go there. The prospect of being on TV sounded so awesome, she wanted to make it seem interesting.

"Great." Rich quietly snarked "Let's go to the lowest part of the house built on top of a hell hole. No suspense, no tension, these ponies really have no clue about narrative structure."

 

He took a position by the top of the stairs to record everypony walking through the doorway onto the staircase.

Shooting Star was stunned by the insides of the house for a moment. All of the old furniture and the dusty, dark corners had such a feeling to it. A feeling like something was going to happen. "Uh... Well then! No time to hesitate anymore! Follow me, everypony!" he said, trying to sound confident. As soon as Star finished his sentence though, he noticed the other ponies about to go through the staircase. He quickly ran after his group.

 

"Woah woah woah, wait a second! You guys wanna go down there? Into the basement right away?" He panicked for a moment, accidentally showing his fear.

The basement looked more like a hotel hallway than anything. It was a long hallway, because of the growing darkness, the end of the hallway couldn't be seen. Each side had a row of doors. There was a distant struggling sound, like a trapped animal. It made a constant thumping sound that echoed through the hall.

"What do you think that is?" Asteria asked, looking towards the others for an answer. She was referring to the thumping noise. "It's most likely nothing. Who wishes to check it out?" Lapis replied, cocking an ear to hear the sound better. Asteria shook her head. She only wanted to poke around in rooms, not go after mysterious sounds. Lapis Lazuli didn't care either way, so it was up to the Quillusion and the two camera ponies.

[Driz 1,552]

"Uh... Well... *ahem*" Star regained his posture. "I don't know, guys... What if there's some kind of dog or wild animal down there? It may attack us." A single louder thump echoed, as Star began to shiver again. "I'd rather stay behind and just film anyway! That's, uh, my job after all... Hehehe!~" He pulled off a nervous smile, while hiding behind Spotted Rich upstairs. Edited August 18, 2012 by DrizzleSTAR

A raccoon scampered down the hallway toward the crew. It stopped at the foot of the stairs and looked up with green eyes. It must have considered them a threat, because it turned around and dashed back into the darkness.

Quillusion looked at Lapis. "That might be it, but if you want me to, I will go by myself to go find whatever it might be." She said, putting on a brave face. Inside, she was freaking out, most stories the pony that went alone was killed first, and she did not want to die first. "So, would you like me to go investigate?" She asked.

[Bari 7,023]

"How about you take Asteria with you? This house is very old and decrepit. You might get hurt and need somepony to help you out. Spotted Rich, get over here. Follow them so we can some footage." Lapis was well aware this was still a TV show, and anything of importance needed to be filmed. "Uh, ya sure it should me?" Asteria asked, hoping Lapis wasn't serious. "I feel that sending our unicorns would be the best course of action. So, get to it." Asteria grumbled compliance. "So, you ready to go?"

"Good idea, wander off alone in the haunted house." Rich replied. " I'll sit here and play with my ouija while the kid can start singing creepy nursery rhymes." Spotted Rich began his descent into the basement, using the camera's night-vision to watch where he stepped.
