Elements of Chaos: what would they be?

I kinda thought up my own ideas for the elements of disharmony.

 

Kindness- Hatred 

Loyalty- Betrayal

Generosity- Greed 

Laughter- Sadness

Honesty- Dishonesty

Magic- Dark Magic

 

Kinda like a few people, but this is just what I came up with.

Well, not going with a literal opposite of the known elements of harmony, but rather the other side of the definition in meaning things that keep people separated, we'd have quite a few things.

 

Things like fear, insecurity, obsession, superiority, unknown, jealousy, malice, zealotry/dogma, etc.

Hmm, how to twist the Elements of Harmony without coming off as unoriginal? Let's see...

 

Magic is Friendship so Magic ===> Loneliness ===> Nightmare Moon

Honesty ===> Deceit  ===> Chrysalis

Generosity ===> Greed (the obvious one) ===> Diamond Dogs

Loyalty ===> Betrayal, Indecision ===> uhhh...Rainbow Dash?

Laughter ===> Despair, Sorrow, Madness (two opposites, and a twisted positive) ===> Discord, King Sombra

Kindness ===> Cruelty, Fear (an evolution of cruelty - instilling fear into others) ===> Gilda, DT&SS, King Sombra

Okay I took anyother crack at it and I came up with another crack it it.  This time I'm going to assume the the elements of chaos are meant to be the counterpart to the elements of hoarmony rather then an aspect of them.

 

Honesty-> Confusion

 

Kindness-> Nihilism

 

Laughter-> Indulgence

 

Generosity-> Narcasism

 

Loyalty-> Rebellion

 

Magic-> Wonder

I don't know I keep thinking about it and I keep coming back to the elements of chaos being part of the elements of hormony.  Harmony is the balance between extremes.  The opposite of chaos is order, and thus harmony is the balance between the two.  So as I see it the Elements of Order are Honesty, Loyalty, and Generosity, and the Elements of Chaos are Kindness, Laughter, and Magic.

In Hellenic (ancient Greek) mythology Chaos was the initial state of existence. Chaos was before everithing. And everything else, the world itself, that is called Cosmos (order), has spontanously evolved from Chaos.

So: there are no elements of chaos, because Chaos was an element on itself.

 

 

I don't like the assumption that the elements of choas would be bad, or that harmony is sanonymous with order.

That is a nice approach, though.

I assume that you mean "Disharmony" when you say "Chaos"? Basically the same thing, right?

 

Well, it'd have to be the opposite of the Elements of Harmony, such as:

 

Magic -> Bewitchment

Generosity -> Greed

Honesty -> Deception

Laughter -> Despair

Kindness -> Cruelty

Loyalty -> Severance

I wonder if instead of making elements to counteract the Elements of Harmony, one could make elements that have the same amount of power and are all virtuous traits, but what ends up happening as that it creates an imbalance of good and bad and results in chaos?

You have many good ones. But I see that you missed loyalty. Also, would Sombra also count as greedy? He wanted the crystal kingdom, the slaves, and maybe all of Equestria.

If I had to give an Element to Sombra it would be Domination which would be the negative form of Loyalty.  That's more en Element of Order though.

This is all just off the top of my head. I didn't go into detail about it. I really appreciate Freedan's take, though. I'll quote it because I'm cool like that. I think the only one I disagree with the vanity one, though.

 

Here's my take on it. Obviously, the elements of chaos would be opposites of the elements of harmony, so here's what I think they'd be.

Magic - Abyss: Magic is often portrayed as something that creates other things, miracles, tools of wonder, and generally fills life with things people normally wouldn't imagine. Abyss, on the other hand, is completely emptiness, an existence devoid of such wonders. I also think this is an appropriate opposite for Twilight, who regularly fills her existence with new knowledge of some kind, but abyss would be something completely devoid of any knowledge.

Loyalty - Greed: Some people have said this is the opposite but I think Greed is more appropriate here because if you think about why Rainbow Dash left for "Cloudsdale" in Discord's episodes, it was because of her self-interest and greed that she left the game and her friends.

Honesty - Deceit: this one's rather obvious imo so I don't think I should explain it

Generosity - Vanity: This one is rather simple because Rarity actually exhibits both generosity and vanity which is what makes her really interesting. The element of Vanity would be the opposite one to this because Vanity is often a trait seen as completely selfish and self-serving.

Laughter - Terror: The idea behind this one is that the element of laughter brings joy to others, then the opposite element would also be the opposite of laughter's end result: fear and terror in the hearts of those who face said element.

Kindness - Pride: Pride in excessive measures is often blinding to the needs of others which is why I would say Pride opposes kindness. For one to be kind, I believe there has to be a sense of humility, and someone filled with hubris is often anything but kind and looks down on others.
