Brony zealotry

Oh heed us ye heathens for we are the bronies and we have to save your souls.

With love and tolerance we shall condemn the heretic. The false bronies shall be exposed for the cad they are if they do not watch the show everyday, write fanfic, draw picture or otherwise not call mlp a work of a masterpiece that the art and literature has ever seen.

Let the heathens know our fury as we do not suffer their indignation of which we practice the double standard of love and tolerance. Plotholes? Animation errors? Screwed hypocritical moral lessons? These lies shall be purged with our firey friendship as we unite against the evil of freedom of thought.

Lauren Faust is thy god and Danial Ingram is her voice! Tara strong is thy benefactor and Hasbro is thy friend.

With the power of harmony you shall be free. Just follow the mandates of loyalty, laughter, kindness, honesty, generousity and friendship.

Only... we never actually refer to that for instead we follow the fan-made DOGMA that is love and tolerance. Which was not originally a dogma at all but just a method of non-confrontational anti-troll used to survive in the fires of 4chan flame wars.

If this sounds familiar to you. You should calm the buck down. Though I will privy myself with something that has caused many a flame war by PC-obcessed bronies.

Bro+ponies=bronies

Agreed upon Definition.

People's who like my little pony friendship is magic and are outside the target demographic. The target being little girls (so preteens and below).

True brony bollocks

That you have to believe in this and that. That you must "follow" some obscure philosophy or live a certain life style to call themselves a true brony. To have "achieved" a certain level of idiocy in the form of quantity and quality of merchandise or fan-material or achieved some sort of "rite of passage" challenge. To be a brony.

All wrong. All stupid ideas and every fandom has them. However I will not tolerate them.

hot Debate topic

Bronies are a brotherhood. They were born of bronies and have gain media attention BECAUSE of males defying gender stereotypes.

bronies are men and as such... the women (that are teens and above) are segregated as pegasisters.

While the anti-sexism PC people. Bastardise the word brony to suit their purposes of equal sex by making the term bronies idiotically (from a language point of view) unisex.

Hey you know this winged unicorn.

1) Bronies are people who enjoy my little pony and are part of the fandom (eg they know about Derpy, Lyra and all that stuff that people who just watch the show wouldn't get) regardless of age or gender. Female bronies have been given the name "pegasisters" but can (and most of them do) refer to themselves as bronies because in truth, we are all one.

2) There are no "true" bronies. No one is it stated that you must follow a certain philosophy or lifestyle to call yourself a brony although in my opinion bronies (and people in general really) should try to "love and tolerate" others and be kind and caring in general. Also, nowhere have I read anything about this "rite of passage". If people like a show then they might want to buy merchandise to support it. Some people just buy more things than others and some don't buy anything at all. None of these things should stop people from calling themselves bronies. Even if you're in to clopping and the likes, you're still a brony (just with different preferences).

To sum up, bronies are supposed to be open minded and non-judgmental (mainly due to the fact that you're a hypocrite if you judge someone for something stupid while you yourself have problems with people teasing you for watching MLP). We're supposed to accept people no matter what views they have about being a brony, no matter how much merchandise they have or even what they believe in. We're supposed to be giving a good example to other fandoms.

(I'm not sure what you meant with the alicorn stuff so I won't comment on that)

Then clearly you have not been to a very wide social circles that the brony fandoms go,

The youtube flame wars have these in common.

elitist mlp forums and websites that bar factions of the fandom from themselves.

4chan, ponychan.

you never hearing (seriously?), merely suggests to me that you need to look a lot harder and spread your wings a bit.

instead of the possible falsities of my claims.

Say there are people that actually think that you're not a brony if you don't buy merchandise (which I have no doubt that there are, despite me not having seen any). There are people like that in every fandom. No exceptions. I'm just saying that we as a community have to be role models for other communities since our community is one of love and kindness (despite the few people mentioned above).

Also I've never been to ponychan or 4chan but I know enough about them to know that you shouldn't take these people seriously (at least the 4chaners).

Finally, about youtube. Again, there are flame wars about pretty much everything on youtube. You can seldom find a video on youtube these days without some sort of flame war going on. What I've noticed though is that pretty much all MLP related flame wars are between bronies and haters and never between fellow bronies (although some bronies do step in and try to talk some sense into other bronies).

I once thought of using the example...

"you know this orange, thick skinned fruit with a sour and sweet orangey flavour? this is called an apple"

"THAT'S AN ORANGE YOU NOOB HUFF PUFF HHERP."

just to get the idea on what it means to unisex the brony word. it has no right answer, but its worth a think.

but instead I used a pony example, Guess I shoulda stuck to the original.

IMO, Brony = someone outside the target demographic that enjoys MLP:FiM. Brony =/= someone who has to 'conform' to some BS ideologies that someone thinks all fans should hold. Nah. Fuck that.

I'll enjoy the show. I'll discuss the show with people. It'll be fun. I won't however think that 'Oh, because I am a brony, that means I have to love and tolerate!'. To me, that sounds completely and utterly ridiculous.

I know others will be different but for me it's just a TV show which I enjoy, nothing more. The term 'brony' to me means no different to 'fan of MLP:FiM who happens to fall outside the target demographic'.

Wow where even to start with this.

First off I'm not sure why you started a huge topic about this, as Brony is just an asinine label for a fan just as much as Potterheads and Whovians is. It's really not this big revolution people keep making it out to be.

Second off, if you have to separate yourself out as being special for liking MLP just because you're a man, the problem isn't those "anti-sexism PC" people, but you.

I'm a little worried you're talking about being against sexism as though it's a bad thing. It...really isn't? :/ It might seem silly to you, but to you it's just an inconvenience. To people who call it out when they see it, it's a reality that women and men that ally with them that they have to do more than they should have to in this day and age, because sexism is so deeply ingrained into our society. And they have to be put up with being called silly for it because it's been made so normal.

Now just. Enjoy the silly talking ponies and don't fuss over labels, goodness.

Presumptions are a terrible thing.... I'm just stating the two factions of the brony fandom. The elitists and equalists.

Funny how people presume opinions of other people that do not mesh with their own when one presents both sides. Why assume I side with one when I say

"neither is right but it is worth thinking about"

This is a challenge to every idealist brony. If they are so sure of what they say then they will have an answer to the many conundrums they create (and NEVER ADDRESS).

I'll not merely sit down and accept "let's just all accept the talking ponies"... because wtf does that even mean? It doesn't solve anything. It stops critical thinking.

I... I cant even understand what you are trying to say considering the inherent lack of organized thoughts and sentence structure. But there are people like this in every fandom bro. If you dont like it, dont drop to their level with this kind of posting. No one on here is like this that I know of.

So what exactly is being discussed here? The original post doesn't seem to give a clear indication of the topic at hand, though it seems to be touching upon the standard "What defines a brony?" question. Could someone clarify this for me?

Let people think what they want. I know I am a brony, and I don't care if other people don't think that I am just because of what I do or don't do. There is nothing to be gained or lost from impressing people online and so why bother caring?

i think the topic is about the people who take it all to far thinking of brony'dom as some kind off movement and the quote give makes it appear like a religious movement rather then a cultural movement. when the truth is its just a show.

other then that i'm not sure looks like he's trying to use Political Correctness as a shield to make himself look like some kind of hero for free speech, i.e. female fans who use the word brony are basterdising the work because it 'bro'-ny and any one who is against it is just being politically correct .. but i could be reading it wrong

I think you are over analyzing this and complaining over nothing as it isn't a serious problem. It's a fandom! Not a religion, not a philosophy, just a fandom. A fandom thats about enjoying a show to one's own extent.

I beg to differ. I've already found many within hazarding this zealotry. We are all aware of them and know the divide that we segregate each other with.

It's not meant to have any "point", nothing about doing things for fandom has a point.

It just food for thought

Well I'm gonna give my 2 bits 'bout this sorta thing.

1.

Bronies range from any age or gender, but I honestly wouldn't go up to a 5 year old girl and call her a Brony. The term Brony, on my view, is made for anyone outside of the target demographic, my opinion might seem harsh and unaccepted to other fellow Bronies, but let's look at it this way, an 8 year old girl made a member on this forums get in some sort of trouble, now lets say the little girl wasn't so little, and was already a couple years older, her parents'd know to handle to situation in a different way, and since this wasn't the case, there was some sort of trouble.

And well lets face it, the brony community isn't exactly for little kids, considering there's the probability that they can stumble upon something such as Rule 34, and/or any Grimdark material. If the term Brony is made for people IN the Target Demographic as well, we'd be taking responsibility to ensure the kids are safe from any sort of this work. Not to mention the term brony originated from 4Chan, and even though there's hardly any connections to it nowadays it doesn't necessarily give us a good name.

2.

As for the other things in were a Brony has to go through certain things to be called one, it's not to be taken seriously, the guy who typed it didn't show to have the intellectual of a squirrel according to his grammar, and he's not really mature about what he says.

Even if he didn't have any sort of grammatical errors, he doesn't make a good point in anything he said, saying that we must praise Lauren as a goddess is generally offensive to certain religious Bronies, and saying you will bash out anybody who doesn't agree with you, probably is one of the worst things you can do to give your fandom a bad name, we've received plenty of hate as it is, and hating among ourselves, and trying to get attention from others will only lead to disharmony, so personally I try stay away from flamewars anywhere and occasionally try to stop them.

Now take my bits and use them wisely, for I have run out of them, I must get a better paying job, selling potatoes isn't working out for me much....

*Incoming long post*

Factions? Segregation? Are you trying to split this fandom apart. Seperating the crazys from the not-so-crazys and the men of the fandom from the women of the fandom.

We are all Bronies. Men, women, "true" bronies, not-so-"true" bronies, hell even that guy in the corner acting insane while caressing a fluttershy doll.

You claim to representing both sides. Both sides of what exactly? The fandom? We arn't at war, Bronies do not fight one another, sure there are girls (and that one guy...) who call themselves pegasisters, but we arn't segragated. We arn't apart.

"elitist mlp forums and websites bar factions form themselves" Seriously? Just cuz a girl calls 'emself a pegasister doesn't make 'em any different than anyone else in this fandom. And if your talking about the zealots and non-zealots, we don't seperate us from them. No matter how much you would probably like that considering u don't like 'em. "elitists and equalists"? OH comon man! Since when do we consider some people of our fandom "elitists" And who the hell are the equalists? the ones in the fandom who think the term Brony is unisex? Seriously? I can't even count how many times i am facepalming here.

The truth is, we are ALL Bronies. Men, women, teens, even some kids. Even the crazy people and the cloppers of the fandom are Bronies. A Brony is someone who, either is outside the target demographic and watches the show, or considers themself a part of the fandom and watches the show. I say that cuz i have seens kids who say they are bronies even if they are in the target demographic range. I'm not gonna exclude them just cuz they are young.

Yes there are people who call themselves pegasisters, or call themselves neither, but really, they are Bronies. We are Bronies. Even the "zealots".

And plz don't be pollitically correct and say "OH ITS BRO+PONY SO YOUR WRONG" Yes i know that. But the term grew out from that once this became an actually fandom and women joined the group.

And BTW that is all My opinion. So don't get all correcting me and stuff. Its how i see it in my eyes. (Even if you do try and "correct" me, i can still rebut it.)

And now to cover the first half of your message. Yes i agree that is all stupid ideas. That there is some code and crap. And there are people who wish to "spread bronyism" like its some sort of religion. But you shouldn't segregate those "zealots", as you call them, and not tolerate. The Fact that you said they are in all fandoms are a good reason to tolerate them. There are always gonna be thr radicals and crazys in whatever group you see. Doesn't even have to be a fandom. Pollitics, religions, where ever. there is always gonna be some radical. I Tolerate them. They just have different views and opinions and stuff. Even if they arn't... uhh "right", its not like they are killing people for not being bronies. At the end of the day, we all just share a common interest, and/or interests. Isn't that all that matters?
