Void Angel - a universe I've been working on for awhile and finally finished (sort of not really)

We could use it as a basis for an RP if you want to. I never really had an intention for it, and I have ideas of ways to adapt into a book series, video game, RP, whatever. I just had that rare but wonderful circumstance where one gets an idea they love while they have a lot of free time and are also feeling in the mood to invent and write fiction. So I started making this about 2 - 2.5 months ago, I think. It's based off Christian mythology, a subject I've always found interesting. 

(DISCLAIMER: I'm not saying Christianity is a myth. By Christian mythology, I mean old stories and superstitions from a long time ago that are no longer accepted by mainstream Christianity. For example, the existence of vampires.)

 

 Anyway, here it goes. It's long as hell (and heaven ), so it's in several spoilers. 

 

 

The Void, and the nature of the universe. 

 

The Void is a mysterious place outside of heaven, hell, and earth. It comes from the combination of good and evil energies that leak out of Heaven and Hell, as well as the souls of those who die and go to the Void. 

 

When a human dies, their soul goes to one of three places. The extremely good people go to heaven. Not just nice people, but truly selfless people, such as Ghandi. Truly evil people, such as serial killers or rapists, go to Hell. Everybody else goes to the Void. 

 

The power of these three realms is related to the number of souls that are sent there. This is why demons tempt humans into committing acts of evil, while the angels try to stop them. However, since the majority of people are neither extremely good or extremely evil, the power of the Void is far greater than that of Heaven or Hell. However, since the Void is a mixture of good and evil, it is one of the hardest powers to tap. One must be in perfect balance in order to utilize the massive energies in the Void. There have only been a handful in all of history to do this effectively. Since both Angels and Demons are naturally good or evil, respectively, neither will ever be able to use the Void, and thus all Void users have been human. Also, because of the immense powers of the Void, these humans have power on par with even the Angels and Demons. A Void user who achieves true, perfect balance between good and evil, and was born with unnaturally high magical ability, can transcend into a Void Angel. 

 

Void Angels have immense power, many times that of and Archangel or Archdemon. They are also immortal and nearly invincible. However, they are also beings of complete balance, and will rarely interfere with Earth, or the battles between Angels and Demons.

 

 

 

Demons

 

There are 7 types of standard demons, each personifying one of the 7 deadly sins. These groups of demons have frequent skirmishes, but are generally united in theirs battle against humanity and their angelic protectors. 

 

Demons are mostly humanoid in appearance, but immortal (they cannot die from old age, but can be killed other ways.) they are all malevolent, although the degree varies. Demons reproduce through sexual intercourse with other demons of the same species. 

 

Besides the standard demons, there are numerous types of lesser demons, many of whom are not aligned with any particular sin. There are also greater demons, who are much more powerful and often represent multiple sins.

 

Vampires - these are the demons of pride. They look human, except for their prized pale skin and red eyes. They are not to be confused with Drinkers, undead creatures that live of of human blood, and are what we would normally call "vampires". True, demonic vampires feed of of any life. They take great pride in everything they do, from appearance, language, mannerism, even how they feed. They all have extremely fast regeneration, and are therefore incredibly hard to kill. They are also much stronger and faster than humans, and have great natural talent for magic, including some forms of magic only they can use. 

 

Succubi - demons of lust, "succubus" refers to the females, males are called "incubi" (singular: incubus), although all demons of this type are generally called succubi to make things simpler. These demons can shapeshift to a point, making themselves look more human. They seduce humans in order to mate with them, and it is said that sex with a succubus is more satisfying than sex with any human. They also have natural regeneration, but it is less than that of a vampire. 

 

Minotaurs - Minotaurs are demons of wrath. They are incredibly strong and durable, able to nearly anything. They do, however, have an exaggerated weakness to holy magic and artifacts, more so than other demons, and have very little magical power. They are as intelligent as an average human, but become mindless berserkers when enraged. They are quick to anger and slow to let things go. They're bodies are humanoid, but much larger than a human, and the head of a bull. 

 

 Wights - Wights are demons of gluttony. Long ago, they were the most powerful of demons, being immortal and having incredible magical powers, on top of immense physical strength. But they became too arrogant, and attempted to overthrow the archdemons, the gods of demonkind. Not even the Wights could defeat the combined power of the archdemons, and were defeated. The Archdemons placed upon them a curse; since they hungered so much for power, they were cursed to hunger instead for meat, and would only have access to their 

 

Doppelgängers - The demons of envy. Like Wights, they used to be far greater. Their power to take the form of anything they please and adopt their powers for their own was nearly unstoppable, until several attempted to take the form of the Void Angels. They almost succeeded, but the Void Angels stopped them and cursed them in two, crippling ways. First, they would no longer have the full power of the forms they took, only a lessened power, and second, they would never be happy with any form. Now, no matter what form a Doppelgänger takes, it won't be long before they see something they'd rather be, and with their lessened power, they can never reach an existence they are content with. 

 

Drakes - Drakes are the demons of greed. They appear as humanoid, but with reptilian heads and scaly skin. They have retractable spikes running down their backs that extend when they are angered. Males have horns and have icy breath that can freeze most foes, while females have fire breath. Drakes have very little magical ability, but are some of the swiftest of demons. On rare occasions, females will be born with wings, and are regarded as the highest of all Drakes. 

 

Writhes - A Writhe is a demon of Sloth. They are so lazy, they often refuse to even take a cohesive shape, instead just existing as a twisting mass of goo, which is how they got the name. They fight by simply enveloping an enemy and dissolving them, which is also how they eat. Because they lack an actual shape, they simply flow around most attacks, and are therefore extremely difficult to kill. Luckily, it is often unnecessary to kill them, since they are incredibly easy to outrun, and usually won't even give chase. Nobody knows how they reproduce, but it is known that they do not have genders, so intercourse is unlikely. 

 

 

Cambions

 

Cambions are the children resulting from intercourse between a demon and a human. Those with human mothers are more human than demon, while those with demon mothers are the opposite, although all cambions look human. They have behavior and personalities similar to that of the type of demon they descend from (for example, a cambion resulting from a human and a vampire would be overly prideful about many things, especially their lineage.).

Cambions with demon mothers, called maternal cambions, will also often show physical traits of demons, such as not having to breathe or have a beating heart to live. since they have mostly human bodies, these processes still happen involuntarily, but stopping them will not kill the cambion. Maternal cambions may also have other oddities, such as unnaturally colored eyes or hair, and thus generally do not fit well into human society. Because of this, they often remain in the demon world, generally as servants or soldiers, working under the rule of demons. 

 

Paternal cambions, those with demon fathers, are less demonic and can generally live normal human lives. In fact, some don't even know that they are cambions. They still have small demonic aspects, but they are slight, and are sometimes even mistaken for psychological problems. 

 

For obvious reasons, cambions born of succubi are the most common. The rarest are those from vampires, since very few vampires would stoop so low as to mate with a human.

 

 

 

Angels

 

The angels are the sworn protectors of humanity, and enemies of the demons. They constantly protect humans from demonic influence and harm, and often fight directly with demons as well.

 

Angels are humanoid, though many have wings. They are all much stronger physically than humans, and grow to adulthood much faster, usually within a year or two. They are immortal (they cannot die from aging). They do not reproduce; when an angel dies, they are reincarnated as a child in the Sanctuary (the central area of heaven). The number of angels always stays constant. No one is sure how many angels there are, but the number is incredibly high. 

 

There are several types of angels. Unlike demons, these are the only types of angels, and every angel is one of these. 

 

Seraphim - the most "generic" angel. They are messengers and scouts. They are physically weaker than other angels, and not suited for combat, but they are extremely fast and have perfect memories. They have average magical power. 

 

Cherubim - these are guardian angels. They are extremely resilient to any type of attack. Though they cannot use magic, they do have mighty swords of fire, from which they can shoot jets of flame or cause explosions when they strike. Their shields are unbreakable, except for the strongest of creatures. 

 

Erelim - these angels are more suited to practical work than battle. Their powers let them reshape solid objects, making them the primary builders and manufacturers of almost everything in heaven. However, when they do fight, they are extremely creative and difficult to beat. They also often travel with groups of warriors to support them in battle and repair weapons and armor. 

 

Hashmallim - these angels serve as governors of heaven. Though they are subservient to the Archangels, they wield enormous power and influence. They wield swords of light and lightning, which are far more powerful than the fire of the Cherubim. They also can use magic, unlike the cherubim. They rarely leave heaven, preferring to oversee and guard their realms than to engage in any active battles on Earth. 

 

Powers - These angels are perhaps the strangest of all. Extremely powerful, they guard entire nations on Earth. They also subtly shift the balance of power and influence on Earth in an attempt to prevent massive wars. However, they are forbidden from interfering too much, or from directly interfering, which is why wars still happen. They spend the majority of their time on Earth, generally taking the form of a human to remain hidden. 

 

Archangels - these are the highest of heavenly beings. They have access to all of the powers of the lesser angels, plus their own. They are few in number, and rarely leave the Sanctuary, since it is their highest duty to guard the angelic children, and to govern heaven. Even among angels, few have ever seen an Archangel in combat. It is said that they wield 2 swords, one cherubic and one hashmallic, but they are both many times more powerful than those wielded by cherubim and hashmallim respectively. 

 

Nephilim

 

The nephilim are the children of angels and humans, specifically, those with an angel father and a human mother. They are extremely rare, as angels do not have any desires of that nature. Nephilims are unique in that they cannot be harmed by mundane means; only magic and heavenly or demonic weapons can hurt or kill them. They are also endowed with superhuman strength and speed, as well as some of the lesser traits of the angel who fathered them, such as a seraphs incredible memory. Also, a nephilim will experience far less desire to sin, and won't be able to be tempted except by the strongest of demons. 

There has never been a nephilim born of a Power or an Archangel, but judging by the nature of these angels, any nephilim they create would have power rivaling those of a lesser angel.

 

 

 

The current world

 

It is currently 2037. The world never fully recovered from the war started by the global economic collapse in 2012. There were many other factors, but the economic collapse was the tipping point (and that is another story). Approximately 3 billion people died, nearly half the world population. This sparked quite a lot of excitement in Heaven and Hell; even though the majority of souls went to the Void, enough went to Heaven and Hell to cause a noticeable power increase in both realms. This sparked a new war between the two, a renewing of an eternal war that had simply been dormant for several hundred years. The demons began tempting humans with increased intensity, and angels strove to fortify humanity against the demons, as well as encouraging more people to be as righteous as possible. 

 

As a result of the increased otherworldly activity, coupled with the desolation left by the war, the world is a lot worse off than it has ever been. Poverty is everywhere, the few stable governments are run b dictators. Even the few who retained a semblance of democracy are, in reality, run by a central figure with absolute power. Other territories have extremely unstable governments, where power shifts hands every few weeks or months. Feudalism has returned in several areas, run by bandit groups and organized crime syndicates. Disease runs rampant, with only a select few rich being able to afford decent medical care. The average life expectancy is around 55. 

 

At some point, some demons began to manifest themselves in the real world, not disguising themselves. Some offered humans deals in exchange for their souls, some went to create cambions, others merely to cause terror. Several powerful archdemons granted all of humanity the power to use dark magic, with the condition that any and all practitioners of the dark arts would go to Hell upon death. many fell to this temptation, and Hell began to gain the upper hand.

 

As one of the largest religions that still supports the belief in actual demons coming to Earth, the Catholic Church saw a huge increase in membership as people sought an explanation for the hellish beings popping up around the world. Soon after that, an archangel descended into the Vatican to warn the clergy of the true nature of the demons, as well as the Angels. The Catholic Church turned itself into the Church of Angels. The archangel, seeking to combat the demons lure of magical power, granted humanity access to holy magic. 

 

A demonic church was also formed when several cults joined together, seeking to end the war between heaven and hell by causing as many as possible to fall into temptation and then killing them before they could repent. The Church of Angels did not stoop that low, but euthanasia quickly became a very acceptable option when a good person was sick or wounded beyond what simple medicine could heal. 

 

A smaller, but still prevalent church formed, seeking to restore balance between Heaven and Hell so the otherworldly war would quiet down once again, and humanity could rebuild. After one member discovered the magic of the void after experimenting with combining dark and holy magic, the Order of the Void was founded. Use or Void magic became not just a way to use incredible power, but a way to test ones balance between good and evil; those with higher degrees of balance have more control over Void magic. An Angel came to speak to the leaders of this religion, seeking to convert them to good, accidentally let slip of the existence of Void Angels. The Order immediately set out to find someone with enough natural magical affinity to be able to transcend into a Void Angel. As of yet, no Void Angel has been created, and the few that do exist have not yet saw fit to interfere with the Earth, nor the war between Heaven and Hell.

Oh, and in case anypony is wondering why this is a bit short for being 2 months of work, this is just what I've written down, which I think is enough to get the majority of the setting across. Also, it's not like I was working on it straight for that long. It's always in the back of my mind, but I only really actively work on it when I get an idea. I like to let things come to me, instead of trying to force creativity. there is one thing I forced. Internet cookie to whoever guesses it

 

Also, this past week or so, I told myself "dammit, you are going to figure out the conflicting ideas you have an write the damn thing down, or at least enough of it for others to do something with." that's why I haven't been doing much in EoN or restarting MLM.

Aside from that, I have't been able to read most of it but WOW is it well written. I'm sure people would love to RP it, though I'm not one a fan of anything related to demons of angels myself.

Obviously you've never had to edit a post from an iPod. You can't scroll in text fields on the Internet with these things and instead have to hit "enter" a ton to push the page down, and then delete all the line breaks you just made so there aren't huge spaces. so there is NO WAY I am taking the time to go back an edit a single word because I had a failure of vocabulary for a few seconds XD
