Should Shigeru Miyamoto write a book on game design?

So good ol Shiggy turned 60, now I’m not trying to scare anyone, but humans got their expiry date and I think it’s high time Miyamoto spilled the beans on designing a game. The guy’s obviously a genius and his methods could benefit designers of the next generation and so forth. So I say he should write all that stuff down and publish it.

Thoughts, would you buy or benefit from such a book?

His formula is simple and not too dissimilar from the one they employ at Valve. He has respect and loyalty for his customers and coworkers. Remember when he said "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad?" That's the biggest factor behind his success. His devotion to making quality games reflects devotion to his staff and customers by not forcing unreasonable deadlines and pushing out crap to make a quick buck.

There's no need for him to write a story, the games he makes and work on tell the tale. The guy is a genius, he knows how to make a good game, and cares about what the customer will think. Actually, a lot of developers at Nintendo are the same way, Satoshi Tajiri came up with a great concept, and at the time, nobbody else really understood it, except Miyamoto. After working on the new game(s) for six years, Pokemon Red and Green were released to critial acclaim. All it took was an idea, and a lot of care and compassion to make the series as great as it was. Think of it as taking care of a baby, Miyamoto took care of each game as though it wa s his baby, and look what happened.

 

It would be cool to read about his life in his own words, but I think the games themselves explain everything.

His games kinda suck, the only thing he ever did right was marketing.There are lots of smaller competitors making way better games than nintendo but nobody ever notices them because the masses only use the internet for porn.

I won't get on your case for saying his games suck, an opinion's a opinion.

But I can name a whole ton of smaller games that get great recognition. Minecraft, Braid, Cave Story, Super Meat Boy. I could go on forever. Also I don't think Miyamoto is in charge of marketing, only designing the games.

I do believe so, yes. The gaming world would benefit from the father of gaming writing a novel about it. That's like asking if Marx should have written about communism.

He design characters and movements in such a way that they're easy to market so I think that he does play a huge part.The smaller indie games you mentioned get recognition because they get coverage from mainstream magazines and sites.

 

Nintendo's early games were good because back then because there weren't many good games
