Super Sentai has been around since 1975, in Japan (originally just titled Sentai [insert title] until Battle Fever J came out). The first series (Himtsu Sentai Gorenger) managed to have around 84 episodes. What was the series about? World peace is threatened by the Black Cross and the United Nations sets up EAGLE (Earth Guard League). The first series had Akarenger, Aorenger, Kirenger, Momorenger and Midorenger. Now--you may be wondering when Power Rangers officially came over to America--right?

In 1992, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger (17th Sentai Series) was released in Japan. data-top-zyuranger.jpg

From left to right: Tricera Ranger, Ptera Ranger, Tyranno Ranger, Dragon Ranger, Tiger Ranger and Mammoth Ranger. Don't sound familiar to you? That's because in America we only labeled them as "Blue, Pink, Red, Green, Yellow" and "Black" Ranger.

1993 was America's first (real) taste of the Sentai flavor that would soon spawn its OWN series which kept continuity, wheras the Super Sentai series would often lose its continuity due to a few factors (of which I would say is just that the Japanese producers did not think it would continue this long; also--it seems as if all Sentai seem disconnected from each other, even if "every so often" they may meet (in a movie) whereas in Power Rangers, we have seen other Rangers meet up various times; the first being Power Rangers Wild Force: Ep 34 Forever Red).

So--are you a Power Rangers/Super Sentai Fan? What's your favorite series of all time, do you keep up with it--and if you could be any ranger, from any series, who would you be? Also--would you want to be a Power Ranger [Acting or for real]?

--

[You may be wondering "Are there differences between the series?" And the answer is, YES. Not all of Power Rangers is "horrible" or have bad graphics (though the early series does--and it seems that the earliest Japanese Sentai does, obviously so being made in 1975), but beyond that. Some Super Sentai series (like Zyuranger) have very good morals to be learned from it, while the Power Rangers seem to just have morals of "TEAMWORK! Let's all work together!" Sentai has been known to kill off main characters, and even characters in the show unrelated to the plot [children, bystanders are all subject to death] Sometimes we have seen transitions of powers DUE to someone dying off (IE: If ranger Black dies--ranger Black gets his powers transferred posthumously to another warrior; or in the event of ONE series--three main rangers sacrifice their lives to benefit humanity when their powers are transferred to three new heroes--though--they are now responsible for saving humanity).

Some series like Power Rangers RPM take a more adult tone to the series whereas its counterpart Engine Sentai Go-Onger was "childish" in a sense and was more light hearted]

I loved Power Rangers when I was a kid! I own a lot of the first couple series on VCR, and also the first 3 movies. I've never seen the Japanese version though. My favorite series was the 1st American one. My favorite ranger was the either the green or white ranger from that series (both were the same person anyway). I followed the Power Rangers through the next 3-4 series, but then I stopped watching. However, occasionally I watch the most recent series with my little brother.

I'd probably want to be the green (Dragon) ranger from the original American series. I probably wouldn't be a very good Power Ranger though.

Sorry to say this, but I've never watched Super Sentai. In fact, the only iteration of the Power Rangers series I ever watched was the original: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. As cheesy as it is today, it was rad when I was little, and I'd still watch it if it was airing anywhere. You know, I'd love to rewatch the entire series. When I watched it during the original run, it was on broadcast television. All of my memories of it are filtered through a gray static. Finally seeing it as it was intended to be seen would be cool.

I can say this for certain, rewatching it in English is fun, and watching the other series in Japanese is good, too. you can see good portions of episodes they took from the original and put into the English, one thing they did miss that I liked in Japanese, was each warrior was a warrior of something. IE. Red was a warrior of justice, Green warrior of power, Pink warrior of love, Blue warrior of courage, Yellow warrior of hope and Black the warrior of wisdom.

Not only that, the zords were "Gods" that were long gone, and they were pretty much letting the rangers use their bodies as a tool. The series did get dark, though. Rita actually tried killing children multiple times. They deal with death on a regular basis, and also interact with children on a level, like, saying "well don't do (x)" or things like that. But as far as continuity, Power Rangers has Sentai beat.

I've always wanted to be a power ranger, since I was little. Wanted someone to look up to me and say "Man, i'd love to be Nick the Black Ranger!"

Used to watch Power Rangers all the time back in the 90's, and at the time it was the best thing going on. Lost track of what happened after Disney, but at least I still got my memories.

Actually, I lost interest during Lost Galaxy, mostly because the thing felt convoluted at that point.

Ah,Power Rangers.I always wanted to be like Tommy.Still kind of do,given that he's a MMA fighter nowadays and kicks major ass.I wonder if he'd wear the White Ranger suit in a MMA fight. ^_^

Anyways, lost interest in it after Time Warp.It was cool and all,but it kinda went downhill for me there.Though that dinosaur one was kinda cool,if only because Tommy was in it again.

I haven't watched Power Rangers in a long time! I own a few VCR's of the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers as well as a few of the movies. I stopped watching after Power Rangers Lost Galaxy though.

Up in the loft I have a ton of toys and action figures and so many Zords it's ridiculous. Power Rangers was the in thing when I was little.

I've never watched Super Sentai.

I would have to say it depends on the series,

I personally am torn between Power Rangers in Space and Lightspeed Rescue

In Space had the awesome Delta Megazord which unfortunately, if I remember correctly, got destroyed close to the end of the series :(

Lightspeed Rescue was just Badass altogether
