movies/tv Who else does not like The Wizard of Oz?

I just came back from seeing Les Misérables. It was pretty powerful. It's not something I need to own nor see again yet it was respectable.

Anyways...

One of the previews before it was for Oz the Great and Powerful. It doesn't look bad, yet it reminded me of my dislike for the original Wizard of Oz.

Some people may be concerned and give me a hard time as to WHY I don't like this classic film.

Well, if this topic gets off the ground detailed discussion will take place. Here are a few basic concepts though.

Dorthy

I don't like her. I don't necessarily dislike her, but I have no attachment to the character. There is nothing admirable about her. She kills the witch by accident and not with heroism. She is overwhelmingly helpless and needs three male companions to help her. She as an individual is simply not special. She isn't smarter "than the average bear." True she wants to get home like anyone else would, yet that is more important than the turmoil that exists among so many in Oz. She is not selfless, but rather the opposite.

Her companions

They mean well. They do not have any beef with anyone. The Lion is obvious, but the Tin Man and the Scarecrow are very cowardly. That trait is not something that I admire or root for. True they store the castle, and that is probably the best part of the entire film, so I give them credit where credit is do. Yet once they are found out, they turn right back into cowards. If I was their coach or something they would need a locker room talk. They want to find their respective wishes. That's fine. I am not going to say I too am human and have self serving motivations, yet when there is a greater cause to be a part of, they could kind of careless. Instead, they act like dogs of Dorthy, running back to her whimpering and asking her what to do. Toto is better than them!

The "Good" Witch

She is pretty horrible. She could have told Dorthy to click her heels the moment she got those ruby slippers on but instead had her complete a complex "hit" for her (Basically, she had her kill the Wicked Witch for her. How horrible and manipulative. Obviously the witch was bad and deserving, yet to involve Dorthy in this was cruel.) She has all this power yet she doesn't do a damn thing for the trio.

The "Bad" Witch

She is bad. She is a true villain which is great and classic. She can be seriously intimidating and dangerous. Towards the end of the movie after capturing Dorthy, however she seems to drop the ball. Why the hour glass woman!? Just kill Dorthy! I obviously didn't root for that, yet if she was such a bad-ass villain you would think she would just kill her in cold blood quickly? She was like a bad James Bond villain, monologue and all, and I am a major Bond fan! I felt like Scott from the 1st Austin Powers with that situation.

The Emerald City

That place is just full of rich brain dead dinks. All they care about is their utopian lifestyle. Their mannerisms express this to me. Hey, I like peace time and being cordial, but with the existence of some entity like the Wicked Witch of the West, I wouldn't be skipping. This city reflected to me America's isolationist and almost utopian like city lifestyle immediately before WWII. Once "sh*t got real," boy did that change.

There's more yet those are some.

What do you think? Back up your opinion if you can.
