gaming Am I the only one expiriencing this in TF2?

Okay, so of course. Most of us know, Team Fortress 2 is based off Source Engine. For the graphics, gameplay, physics, and etc.,

And that TF2 is a HL2 : DM mod (believe it or not, thats why the tf2 binary is caled hl2.exe and not tf.exe)

So, question is, the graphics are messed up, and I made sure its not my GPU.

And by proving its not my GPU.

Team Fortress 2

Is anypony else expiriencing this problem?

My GPU is a modded Intel GMA HD 3150 graphics card. Overclocked and forced OpenGL 2.1 and forced DirectX 10 support.

Computer specifications:

1.80 GHz (overclocked to 2 GHz) Intel Atom N450 (with 32-bit, 64-bit, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, and EMT64)

2 GB DDR3 D-RAM

500 GB 6800 RPM HDD (2 GB dedicated as virtual memory)

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (genuine)

1024x768 75 Hz refresh rate display

Intel GMA HD 3150 (Pixel Shader 2.0, 256MB Video Memory, DirectX 9.0, OpenGL 2.0, forced DirectX 10 support, forced OpenGL 2.1 support, with modded gpu drivers, WebGL 1.0)

Power Supply Unit (PSU), I dont know about this one, probably around 150W

Creative X-Fi USB Audio Card, 32-bit, 48000 Hz + Intrigrated Realtek AC97 HD Audio Card, 32-bit 44100 Hz

Extra notes about my computers specifications:

I managed to get HL2 working on highest graphics with 59 fps

I did not manage to get TF2 to get more than 30 fps on lowest graphics.

GPU is around ~500 MHz

My computer has never overheated since I got windows, never above 50 C, even when overclocked surprisingly.

Monitor refreshes at 75 Hz, GPU refreshes at 60 Hz

USB Audio Card is only used when I have FL Studio Opened.

Audio works fine. 3D sound dominates CPU usage though.

To fix this, I have tried re-downloading, defragmenting, and many other stuff that I should not be doing with my CPU nor GPU too. If the only way to fix this is to get a new computer. Then I'm deleting TF2

And the settings in TF2 is like this.

Model Quality == Low (it recommends Medium)

Shader Quality == Low (it recommends High)

Texture Quality == Low (it recommends High)

Filtering == Anisotropic 2X (it recommends Anisotropic 16X)

Anti-Aliaising == None (it recommends None, and its disabled)

Motion Blur == Disabled (it recommends it disabled)

Sound Quality == Meidum (it doesnt recommend any setting for this)

Lighting Quality == Low (it recommends Medium)

While as overclocking can speed up your machine, It often hurts other applications which expect your processor to go at a pre-defined rate. Try de-clocking it, then restart it, then try running TF2.

Took out overclocked stuff. Still same problem. TF2 is just running slower and now its even more messed up.

And only thing thats being CPU intense while running TF2 is the game itself. 80% CPU usage, it broke my computer heat record. 51 C

PS: Surprisingly, the overclock has never made my laptop go over 50 C, when it should. Probably something with the fans?

Okay, I see the problem. Your graphics card is burning out. Get a new one and a new fan. I suggest an ATI or NVIDIA one.

If that doesn't work, you may have to get a new PC.

Get an ATI? Never

NVIDIA? Power hog, one GeForce GTX 680 already uses 500W from the PSU with my friends custom pc

And it's not burning out, because I've never seen it heat up more than 52 C

Faulty GPU maybe?

Get a new PC? I will get one once my current 2010 laptop dies, which is never. And I don't need one nor want one.

GPU Burning out? I hope it isnt

Your graphics card is burning out. Your overclocking heated up and killed your graphics card. It needs replacement.

ATI cards handle stuff better. I have one personally and I'm loving it. It's fast and makes colors pop. Be careful with overclocking.

I heard Nvidia is better because of PhysX and games like BF3 depend on Nvidia GPUs

Well i don't even play tf2 anymore so I'm fine with hl2 dm, a game that doesn't have messed up lighting ;P

Nvida does have very nice cards, but ATI cards are just as good if not better.

BF3 and others don't depend on NVidia GPUs. Nvida likes to through their name out to get get sponsors and create false claims.

If you boot up a game and see the Nvida logo (example: Street Fighter IV) or see their logo ingame (example: Matrix: path of neo) they sponsored that game.

I will go ahead and second that you need a new Graphics card. While Nvidia generally performs better, it's really only noticeable on the highest end systems. I recommend an ATI with your system since it is cost effective. New ATI cards also have a high performance mode, which you can enable in games which functions similar to an over clock, just be careful, I only use it in games like Farcry 3 because it is dangerous over extended use.

Just because your card hasn't overheated doesn't mean it isn't fried, the candle that burns twice as bright goes half as long. That is over clocking in a nutshell.

Get a new graphics card?

Lol Intel GMA HD is intrigrated

Get a new computer is something I won't do and something I will refuse to do until my computer breaks apart. Meaning I won't get a new one until it comes to a complete stop for operating.

Then it seems you won't be playing many games until the rest of your computer quits.

Doubtful there is any way around these issues without a new graphics card. Such is the risk of overclocking, as I understand it. The problem has nothing to do with the Source Engine.

Yeah, as much as I hate to say it your laptop is pretty much on it's last legs. If the GPU does finally go out completely you won't have any display drivers seeing as those are integrated. I wish I could help, but I really can't, overclocking is nasty business especially on a laptop. (There are ways of replacing a laptop's integrated graphics, but it becomes a lot more of a desktop than anything else.)

I dont really care if the GPU dies out actually. Becuase first of all, this problem with TF2 has been going on since March 2012.

Still running fine.

And if my GPU was dieing or is even being burnt out. How come Im not seeing random white lines on the screen? Those white lines on the TF2 window only popup in the change class menu. Well I dont even play tf2 anymore I repeat.

Call me dumb, but Im more concered about my APU (Audio Card) being burnt out rather than the GPU
