Extra Characters Named After.... wines?

So I was in Target the other day, and I noticed wines with some very familiar Pony names.

 

Featherweight

Junebug

Fancy Pants

Hoity Toity

Pipsqueak

Magnum

 And I'm sure there's several others, if you go and look for them on Google.

 

Just thought it was interesting XD

It wouldn't surprise me. Cartoonists love double entendres.

 

I didn't know Magnum was a wine. But it makes sense that when creating an image for a stallion named Magnum to give him a Tom Selleck mustache as a nod to Magnum PI.

I didn't know those were wines. But until a couple days ago I didn't know about Applejack till a couple days ago ,or at least that itwas that name XD

I didn't know about Applejack either. One I thought it was based on the cereal. Two I also believe the name came from a pony in the older generations that was name Applejack.

I don't know about you, but I've seen every one of those phrases frequently as slang and never before this moment as anything else. I doubt that the creators of MLP tried extremely hard to name random background ponies after obscure wines, and find it much more plausible that wines named themselves after the same popular phrases as the ponies simply by coincidence.

 

It is an interesting coincidence though.

well it definitely came from the older generation  Applejack. Of course the cereal is Applejacks plural. And I would have thought there might be some copyright issue or something with that (to base it on the cereal)

They DO make cider though , so it's not impossible they make Applejack too (of course it's a kidshow so we wouldn't see that XD)

It's kinda difficult to find words that haven't become alcoholic drinks at this point, so most likely it's just pure coincidence. Wouldn't it be awesome if someone named a drink after Twilight though? sounds like the kinda thing that would leave a raging hangover.

The Apples could acually go places with their names, either after cultivars or ciders.

 

Jazz, Empire, Fiji, Northern Spy, Cox Orange (tie in the Oranges while we're at it,) Foxwhelp, Spartan (Spartaaaaa!!) etc.
