Dreadmallon 353 January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 Okay, so I've been curious as of late...what do you all prefer to be on an OC in terms of accessories, mane/tail styles, etc. My OC I'm stuck in between a cape (I like capes), or a flowing mane/tail (would fit the story more). Can't have both. It comes down to what others think fits an OC.
Standard User 2,127 January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 When I'm designing an OC, I try not to use ANY accessories whatsoever. They get in the way when I'm visualizing the character. If I need a cape or a watch or sunglasses, I can just write/add that in later. oOo RIP Forums Writing Centre ;_; oOo
Colt 555 January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 I always try to think of the show. I think of how the OC appearance can get into the original art and design. In my way of viewing it the mane is the key to land a good “personality” into the design. Take a look at the Mane 6. Aside from Twi you can kind of figure out their personalities from their hair stile, Rarity is al glamorous, Fluttershy hides behind her hair, and Rainbow’s well is a rainbow. Think what kind of style goes best with your OC personality and try to give it a fitting one. As for the accessories I have to agree with Kolth. The slightest the better, an scarf, simple hat, pair of glasses or a necklace that has the purpose of enrich the personality of your OC. Here you can see of how the AJ’s stetson is there to make her look more “county”. My advice, keep it simple 1 OC's - Colt the Strahl | Earth Miracle | Tales of a Milennium - FanFic Proyect | Excuse my english
Budding Night 1,043 January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 (edited) I agree with these two ^^ You don't want to make it too superficial Hun, A few minor accessories are fine, A necklace, Braclet or something, But having something like a Cape is more like Super Pony (Man) or Mare Do Well or maybe something like a filly playing dress up, Unless your going for something like that, then that's cool! Go with the cape, but if your doing it for decerative reasons, I'd go with the Flowing Mane & Tail. But still, I don't want to be pushy, If your OC looks cool with a cape, Then whateves', You choose! This probably didn't help much but Ahwell I tryed xD ~Crystal Edited January 21, 2013 by Crystal Dancer 2 Signature by mwah~ OC; Evening Glory
Dreadmallon 353 January 21, 2013 Author Share January 21, 2013 Thanks everypony, I appreciate the advice . My character is simply an infamous, known thief who is practically a silhouette of a stallion with two, sinister eyes in appearance. Should've said that before, sorry. Just wondered what fit that better.
Concord 1,982 January 21, 2013 Share January 21, 2013 Hello! I was never a fan of to many accesories, even though my OC, does have a scarf. (Really fits ) The main thing i look in a OC, are the colours. Only then comes the mane, tail... Thank you MatrixChicken for the Signature! Dreadmallon 353 January 21, 2013 Author Share January 21, 2013 As said previously, I'm just curious as to what would fit a thief more between a cape and a set of flowing mane/tail. To me, encountering a thief who has a flowing mane and tail would be odd, but it'd fit with the story overall.

A long and flowing mane and tail wouldn't fit well in, say, a steampunk setting, but in a medieval setting it could pass. Capes would look best in a medieval setting, or in a modern/futuristic setting if this OC is more of a traditionalist. oOo RIP Forums Writing Centre ;_; oOo

So, would you count that as medieval? Because right now, I'm just not sure... Edited January 22, 2013 by New Moon
