Apple Doom jolted up to see a big drool puddle on the ground. What the buck? He thought to himself as he spotted more all over the front of him. I hope nopony saw me like this. He then looked around to see some ponies sleeping. Apple Doom took in a deep breath to shake the sleep from his body when he smelled something in the air. He looked to see a Pegasus cooking.@, "Is that you cooking or am I smelling things?" Apple Doom said,still trying to shake the sleep from his body.

Aurea slowly opened her eyes and glanced around at the rising sun. She gently put the violin back in its case from where it had been resting against her as she slept. It wasn't an unusual event for her to slowly drift off while playing.

She propped herself up with her wings and slowly rose to her feet, wandering over to where chetnik was cooking. Her eyes lit up and wings rose as she smelled what he was cooking.

"Food?" She asked.

Hunter woke up with a yawn and looked around to see where she was, the camp of course. she soon smelled something in the air

 

 

Chetnik woke up very early, around sunrise, and nopony was awake yet. He decided to relax a bit and continue reading his sci-fi books.

He soon got pretty bored and decided to make breakfast for everypony, which actually went pretty well since Chet was an aspiring cook.

"mmmm that smells good, what is it?"

she trod around all the sleeping ponies and sat next to chetnik to observe his cooking skills

Noon's eyes fluttered open to the smell of somepony cooking breakfast. She rose to her hooves and walked towards the fire where three ponies were gathered. "Good morning!" She said to them, examining the pony cooking over the fire. 

 

"I'm sorry, I don't think we've met," She said lazily to the blue pegasus. "My name is Noon. You're a very good cook." Noon stretched her legs and let in the delicious smell of the food.

Its been a long time since Winter Chills smelled the wonderful aroma of a camp breakfast.  As it entered his system he was gently awoken. 

 

Winter glanced over and saw the rest of the ponies gathering around Chetnik.  He trotted over to join the fellow campers.  "Looks good."  he said to Chetnik.  Winter always fancied himself adequate at cooking but this meal looked pretty darn good given the ingredients on hand.

 

"Good morning," Winter greeted Noon, "Sleep well?"

Noon turned to the recognizable voice and smiled. "Oh, good morning Winter. Yeah, I did." She rose a hoof to her messed up mane in an attempt to fix it.. "How about you?" Her neck cracked as she turned and marveled at the beautiful sunrise forming on the horizon. It's like it never ends. She thought, not used to the wide open spaces of the plains.

Despite the smell of food wafting over to her, causing her neck to turn ever so slightly in the direction of the pot in order to catch the scent Aurea managed to break herself away from where she was standing. She moved back over to her pack, rummaged around, dug out a small hairbrush and returned to put it in noon's hoof with a wing. "Better?" She asked, eyes lighting up a little and body rising slightly.

"Well it was a little chilly but fine nonetheless." Winter replied. He looked at Noon and whispered "Your mane looks great by the way..." with a reassuring smile. He proceeded to notice the way she admired the horizon, "Magnificent isn't it? I could watch the sun rise forever. Too bad it only comes once a day."

Noon blushed at Winter's comment. "Thanks." she turned back to him and replied. "Yeah, it's pretty amazing out here. I can't see the sun set or rise back in Canterlot." Noon suddenly felt a sharp pain grasp her hoof. She glanced down and screamed. A long green snake was attached to her hoof. Her horn glowed and the snake was thrown several feet away from the campsite. Noon sighed and looked down at her hoof, realizing the it was bleeding.

Noon blushed at Winter's comment. "Thanks." she turned back to him and replied. "Yeah, it's pretty amazing out here. I can't see the sun set or rise back in Canterlot." Noon suddenly felt a sharp pain grasp her hoof. She glanced down and screamed. A long green snake was attached to her hoof. Her horn glowed and the snake was thrown several feet away from the campsite. Noon sighed and looked down at her hoof, realizing the it was bleeding.

Winter was nearly as astonished as Noon when he saw the snake but was relieved soon after.  "Don't worry," he comforted, "It was just a garter."  he bent down and grabbed a piece of cloth from his saddlebag, then lifted her hoof to wrap it up.  "If I were you I wouldn't be too worried, as for the snake..." he grinned, "The landing looked like it hurt."  

 

Winter then beckoned Noon with a friendly gesture, "Lets get you something to eat."

Chetnik was happy that everypony was liking his meal.

 

"Yup, food" Chetnik told Aurea and the others.

 

"I took a stroll through the woods this morning and found some berries, had some bread in my bag, and voila! Berry pie, a Serbian specialty.

 

And then he hugged Hunter with his left hoof while fiddling with the pie with his right hoof. Chet soon realized what he did, but he had developed a fondness for Hunter, even though he'd only knew her for a day.

 

Chet then heard a scream and saw the snake, which had been thrown away from Noon with her magic.

 

Chet inspected the still-slithering snake, and then jabbed it swiftly with his bayonet knife. He went up to Noon and told her "Don't worry, it's not poisonous."

 

He called up the rest of the ponies and called them to the meal.

Winter's soft voice snapped Noon back to reality. "Yeah, let's..." Her eyes stared into space in thought for a second. "Let's eat."

She fetched her violin from its case and began warming up. She started with a quick jig, slipping into a slower waltz and eventually into a deep, echoing tune that mirrored her feelings of already being pushed into a corner, alone. Suddenly she realised that she had let her music run away with her, and finished the warmup with a triumphant note. "What sort of accompaniment?" She asked.

Apple Doom, who had been eating the meal, looked around to see the other ponies enjoying each other's company. They will need each other to survive this trip. he though to himself as his smile turned into a saddened frown. Apple Doom looked up to see the sun overhead already. He had hoped to start walking by now. It can't be helped. he thought as he took a sip from his special canteen. "Sorry to burst every ponies bubble but we have get a move on. I will give you all a couple minutes to pack up and get ready to move on out. Chetnik, that was a good meal." Apple Doom walked towards his wagon and started to strap himself in with much difficulty.

"Its nice having someone else who knows what they are doing out here" she mentioned as she tightened the last of the straps, before stowing her violin and hoisting her own pack. "How are we aiming to go?" she asked as she drew along side him. Her eyes scanning the horizon.

Apple Doom  said as he looked over at the pony. "Aurea was it? you are ok to walk that far right? i have space in my wagon for anyone to sit there if they get tired of walking." He made sure his last statement was heard by everyone.

She shifted her wings slightly, making it easier for him to catch a glimpse without staring and revealing even more of her cutie mark. "I make instruments for a living" she said "But I suppose playing them is a hobby" moving along side him, effortlessly keeping pace.

Looks like we don't have any time to read, Hunter. Maybe we'll have some time in the evening when we rest.

"Hey Apple Doom" Chetnik called as he flied up to him, "I could volunteer to pull the wagon if anyone gets tired, and during my time in the Yugocoltian civil war we had quite a few long range bombing runs, so I have the energy, and the will to do it. I'm ready to leave, so if you guys are ready, let's go."
