Why Twilight's status change doesn't matter (spoilers)

So I've been reading how a lot of people feel that Twilight being a princess will change the chemistry of the mane 6 because of her elevated status. I don't think this is the case based on past episodes.

  * First is that Twily has been essentially in a leader positions many times already. While she can get paranoid about details (like in the time traveling episode) overall I"d say she's a decent leader. She gives pep speeches, emphasizes why the objective is important, manages time and tasks effectively(winter wrap up and the cider episode) and focuses on people's strengths. While her friends don't always listen to what she says, they usually do with no grudge whatsoever as they basically turn to her when there's trouble as she's smart and has good ideas. Twily isn't gonna suddenly be a tyrannical leader to her friends

  * 2nd is it always come back to the friends. Every time one of them gets closer to their dream/fame , in th end it always come back to them being with their friends

 

             Examples : Fluttershy gets to be model , both rarity and fluttershy try to do their best  for the other because they think it's what they want (although pinkie pie was a hinderance)

                              Rarity going to hold a fashion show, friends mess up rarity's dream of a good fashion show and make up for it by making her able to get to impress the fashion designer.

                               Applejack as the sure fire winner goes off with the support of her friends. She gets tons of ribbons , friends come get her and cheer her up.                            

                               Rainbow Dash goes to a competition ,friends want to be supportive so they figure out a way to come cheer her on (Twilight's plan) .                                                        

                               Rarity gets famous in canterlot , friends come and encourage her to mingle with rich people to help her success

                               Rainbow Dash get into Wonderbolt academy ,friends want to cheer her up/be there for her.   

       Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie don't really seem to have dreams. Or I'm missing something?

In any case the other common trend between these rises to fame(which is quite similar to becoming a princess if you think about it, as celebs tend to do what they please) Is that in every case the other 5 ponies want to see their friends succeed (as any good friends would) and do their best to help them. The one who rises in status always "learns" in the end that friendship is the most important thing. We even see this in the finale , as Twilight explains how important her friendships are to her. Sure there were some sore spots when certain ones rose to fame (aka mare do well) but the friends never view themselves as "less" compared to their friend because their friend was the best at this or that. (if you'll recall what Applejack and them told twilight in the first trixie episode , which was essentially "it's part of who you are") So twilight being a princess is "who she is".

      *3rd Twilight has always tried to help her friends, why would she not a princess? 

           Helped Rarity by letting her stay in the castle (which helped her become popular)

           Grand Galloping Gala, she considered even giving up her own ticket at one point. It shows she cares about all her friends feelings. By giving them the tickets she basically helped them try out their dream of that night. (again notice how they all ended up together at the end)

           While not mane 6 she also helped out Luna and Zecora (or at least in the beginning she did before she got panicky )

            Helped Applejack keep her farm by coming up with "honorary family " idea.

            Offered help to pinkie pie when she was babysitting the twins.

She could hire applejack to cater the next grand galloping gala, Rarity to be the royals seamstress (because seriously most of the dresses for the coronation could have been a lot better) , pinkie pie could be an official welcoming party organizer .etc 

           *4th I think Princess stuff will either end up involving the other mane 6 or it will be when she otherwise would have been studying/ do some assignment from the princess

 

Also I can't help but wonder if the four princess are going to have to team up and beat some super bad guy , the Royal Elements of Light(Sun),Dark(moon), Love and Magic or something XD

 

Thoughts on group dynamic or why Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie don't really have "set" dreams like Rainbow Dash (wonderbolts )and Rarity (although in a way she already got her dream since we can assume she appeared in that show). Applejack's seems mostly to be having a successful farm.

 

Anyone else wonder what exactly Twilight was expecting she'd become? Just good at magic? Since usually if you go to school or especially if you have a mentor you'd have a set end goal. She couldn't have just thought she'd stay a student forever.

Not much related to the topic but it was kinda obvious that twilight should have been a princess because Her Element of Harmony is Magic (the secret element in the beginning if I remember correctly) and is a crown/tiara instead of a necklace

it was set up from the very beginning that she was going to end up as princess. if you look at her life 1st she has unimaginable  raw magic 2nd princess celeste made her her student out of nowhere 3rd she was the one to find the secret element of harmony magic that looks like a tiara 4th she is a born leader. they all lead up to her becoming a princess from the very beginning

I think it was obvious that they were setting Twilight up to become a princess, but A) I think it was something to be expected at the end of the series, not with at least 26 episodes left, and B ) I don;t think it was expected that she'd become an alicorn.

I think it was planned from the beginning and obvious that she would become a princess. Take the elements of harmony. She has a tiara, most oftenly associated with royalty. She has always been pushed as the leader of the Mane 6 and her studies on friendship eventually had to lead her somewhere.

It was also said by Lauren Faust that all the ponies would realize their dreams. Rainbow Dash would become a Wonderbolt, Rarity a great fashion designer, and Twilight a princess. (I don't remember about the others)

 

Twilight got to her goal first, but expect to see everypony get closer to it as the Season 4 rolls on. We even got a little stint with Dash being recognized as the best of lead ponies at Wonderbolt Academy during Season 3, and it looks like it's just a question of time before she becomes a Wonderbolt.

Could not agree more. Far too many people think that just because she has a status upgrade that means that by default it will change her personality. I know that this will not be the case.

Straight from the horse's mouth's uhhh.....voice. That quote put me in a great mood because it further validates my excitement for season 4. Tara could not have put it any better than that.

No, they're leaving because of what they think those wings mean and the implied changes to the character that they fear they represent.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. I think the main reason some bronies have left the fandom is because they don't like change, or can't deal with it at least. Being a princess was Twilights destiny, So you'd think it would be widely accepted by the fandom .

What's telling you S3 wasn't second-to last season? It is all but sure that the show will continue for more than 1 season, so it could have fit in the right time frame.

Whether or not it works which none of us knows for sure yet we can know that yes it does in fact matter and all the other potential changes for the mane 6 characters also matter. The difference between this change in those is in the handling those changes have been handled very well with enough plot and character development to where they would make perfect sense but twilicorn appeared out of nowhere at the end of a rushed season finale which otherwise have very little to do with it. Yes there were hints about this throughout the series I will concede that but season 3 which should have had massive character development for Twilight to lead into this only focused on her in the opening 2 parter and the finale.

 

I am not saying those other changes aren't profound but twilicorn is the largest change made to series so far and the bigger the change the more time you need to probably handle it and twilicorn was given nearly as much time as it needed. Yet despite all these blunders I have full faith that so long as Hasbro lets the writers do their jobs that everything will work out.

i don't see why people are making such a big fuss over this. I'm really interested in seeing where this goes. You are so right. Twilight becoming an alicorn doesn't matter because at the end of the day, as you said, it's about the Mane Six and their adventures together and the lessons they learn throughout those adventures. I have faith in the writers of this show that they're still going to maintain the original characters and the jokes and everything else that we love about this show. I am looking forward to the premiere of season four. What surprises await us?

While I do agree that becoming a princess shouldn't in turn change the overall values that Twilight already possesses, I would be interested to see that aspect explored in the other attached episodes of this supposed arc. Maybe the whole ordeal of becoming a princess changes how Twilight gets along with her friends, and this could have emphasis placed upon it as the main problem of the upcoming Season 4 opener as well as episode 2. 

 

As for Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie, maybe their dreams are more of just daily matters than the achievement of a ending goal like Dashie's joining of the wonderbolts. Fluttershy seems to love what she does, as does Pinkie Pie, so maybe their dreams are already being fulfilled simply by their everyday life.
