poniesforfun 716 March 3, 2013 Share March 3, 2013 Just watch the same people that hated the idea of Equestria Girls are going to accept it soon enough. This sort of mentality seems to be prevalent in these boards.
Jammo 986 March 3, 2013 Share March 3, 2013 Twilight becoming an alicorn was an obvious progression in terms of story. Now I did not particularly like the way it happened, but I'm okay with it. With Equestria Girls, you have a spinoff show that is intentionally made for the purposes of money. From what I've seen so far, the designs look dreadful and it has the terrible setting of school. HIGH SCHOOL. If it was just a humanized version of the main show, I would be okay with it. Then what's the point? Just friendship is magic with humans? Kind of redundant. Most of the complaints I've been hearing about are "It's not what I expected and/or am comfortable with therefore it's bad." Spinoff properties need unique settings and twists to have reason to exist... And don't give me that "This just exists to sell toys!" So is Friendship is magic. Hasbro is a toy company first and foremost but good writing can make toy commercials entertaining .
ToridAkbolto 170 March 3, 2013 Share March 3, 2013 Alicorn Twilight can look okay. Humanized ponies can also look okay. They made Alicorn Twilight look pretty decent. They made Equestria Girls look... A little off. At best. And that's being generous. It's just something about the art style- the proportions of their heads to their hand size, or something that just really bothers me when I look at it. Something just doesn't look "right". Telegraph 115 March 3, 2013 Share March 3, 2013 This thread has a lot of posts and I am lazy and didn't read all of them. I have no opinion about Equestria Girls as of yet, and I'm kind of indifferent to "Twilicorn" as of yet, but that last episode of season 3 had too much happening too fast, and didn't really develop very well. This includes Twilight becoming an alicorn. There have been a few episodes that I've felt like this about in the past. Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 March 3, 2013 Share March 3, 2013 Princess Twilight was to happen since the start of the series, even Lauren Faust said that. Also, the princess thing will not effect Twilight's personality, so it was going to be fine anyway. Now, with Equestria Girls it's different. The Mane 6 are suppose to stay ponies, not people. It's just away for Hasbro to make an east couple of millions. This fantastic signature is made my by awesome friend Rainbow Skywalker!
Pixel Stick 927 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 Here's my own take on it: I've been in support of Twilight's ascension to Alicornhood ever since I learned about it. It felt to me like a natural progression for her character, which has been developing from Day One. And when it was clear she was going to reach that point, I immediately saw all sorts of potential for new storylines that would take the concept of friendship to whole new levels that likely would never have been explored without this change. So to me, this ascension holds a treasure trove of opportunity, and I really hope the show's writers do something awesome with it. As for EQG: As I mentioned elsewhere, I see this spinoff as an unnecessary distraction, and even though it's not slated to be canon to the main series in any way, in my mind it still threatens to disrupt what I've come to see as a "peaceful purity" in the show. Also, my wife and I share a pet peeve, which boils down to "Why do they HAVE to bring humans into EVERYTHING!?" Put simply: The ponies aren't humans. They're not meant to be human. They have characteristics that we identify with, but we identify with them partly BECAUSE they're very different from us, and in a way, these fantastic creatures represent many qualities I would aspire to be. Shunting them into human bodies and necessarily putting human constraints on them, making them live human lives and work in human social structures just feels like a violation of the purity that Equestria has come to represent for me. I'm all for change, and like I said, "Twilicorn" feels like a natural progression to a dynamic character, and it's believable. EQG does not strike me as any sort of believable. I will still give the show a shot when it premieres, and who knows? I might be quite pleasantly surprised. I would be willing to accept it as a parallel universe at best. But I don't think I can see myself accepting it as a part of My Little Pony. If you wanna make the world a better place, Take a look at yourself, then make a change. -- Michael Jackson
Shanks 10,816 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 While I have had my misgivings about twilicorn I could honestly care less about Equestria Girls because even if the worst happens and it sucks then it will probably not affect the main quality of the show but if it does end up being good which it can be than we get yet another good show.
