A Path to Heroism

The two sentient creatures who found the letter had a choice now. Either they follow the Map or they try to come up with a plan on their own. They could obviously also just ignore it. The idea of adventure might convince them though.

The city they live in has a blacksmith, a leatherworker as well as a small shop which conveniently covers a large area of goods available to purchase. Things to do, might also include asking the townsfolk about the adventerous Pony, in case he might be known, you don't know his name though so that adds another item to the list.

The whitesmith is actually a black smith. ( I added the text before changing and will do that later. )

What do you decide to do?

Ragnar stared at the letter for a while, not sure what to make of it. Even if there was some sort of treasure to be had, he didn't exactly need the money, anyway. On the other hand, it might be interesting, and he was out of ideas for inventions at the moment anyway, so he wasn't really doing much of anything. Maybe he could find something to inspire him. After a while, he decided to at least look into it. He walked out and headed for the local tavern (or whatever would be a common gathering place) in hopes of finding someone who knew something about this mysterious pony.

The local gathering place was a cafe. The lovely place was called "To the Four-leaf Clover". It had a large outside area with ample place for ponies to sit down, drink and eat. Many were already there, about half of the available places filled. Their voices being carried over trough the air. They all seemed to be busy chatting with the pony next to them. The cafe also had some places inside, one was able to watch the chefs prepare the meals.

@,

Not really sure where to start, Ragnar walked over to a random pony.

"Hello, um... I'm looking for some information. Can you point me towards someone who might know a lot about local rumors and such."

He stood there awkwardly as he awaited an answer. He knew this was probably not the best way to go about finding information, but he was never very good at such things.

@,

The pony looked towards the griffon who interrupted him, he shifted nervously before shaking his head, "No, I don't know anyone". He was probably lying, at least that is how he looked like. The ponies next to him all exchanged silent but worried looks. "Something else?" he then added, slightly annoyed at having been interrupted.

It seems that the town ponies here are not that nice at all. At least, that's how it looks like for now.

Lance looked down at the letter he carried once more as he walked to the 'Four Leaf Clover'. He needed something new, something different. The status afforded him as a member of the Royal Guard had ceased making up for the lack of money such an archaic position afforded him long ago. Not that he minded being poor, he simply minded the fact that he stood a ceremonious guard over people and places that needed no such thing while there were still things he had not yet done with his life. One of those was travel, and this letter hinted at plenty to be had. Not having much of an idea on where to begin though, he had figured on a stop at the local's place of meet. Hopefully there he could find out where his next steps would lead

The ponies were not minding him and just kept carrying on with their chats.

Lance had several opportunities to talk to other ponies, none stood out though. There was also a Griffon a bit farther away, he seems to be talking to one of the locals. You manage to make out the fact that the Griffon wasn't really talked to nicely, or at least that's what the facial expressions seem to tell. ( Passed Per. Check )

@Neikifly,

Lance was a little unsure and unused to being around this many ponies at once, preferring usually to be by himself. But knowing that socializing was inevitable Lance approached one of the tables at the edges of the room that held only 2 or 3 chatting pones and waited for a slight lull in their conversation before approaching.

"Umm.. Excuse me, but.. ah, I'm looking for some more information regarding this letter than what it ah... Gave me. Would, would any of you happen to know anyone who might know about it? The letter I mean...."

Lance showed the letter to the ponies, hopeful for a quick resolve to his lack of information.

@@Doc Ginger,

Ragnar heard a pony not far off asking about a strange letter and immediately turned around and walked over to him.

"You wouldn't by any chance be referring to a letter like this would you?" He asked, taking out his letter and showing it to the new pony.

The ponies cooperated happily, although once they started reading it became clear they thought this would be some sort of prank.

Once it passed by everyone the youngest of them proclaimed: "Do you think he might have written other things?" What seems to be his mom immediately gave him the "The Adults are talking" look for having said something, in her eyes, silly. "I'm sorry, but I have never read anything like... this in my life.", she smiled sheepishly in an effort of not embarrassing the White Unicorn.

Lance nodded in thanks to the mare. "I uhm. Thank you for the assistance ma'am. Luna watch over your hopes and dreams."

Lance turned away to almost jump out of his skin when the Griffin appeared behind him, speaking.

"I ah.. um. No. I mean..." Lance breathed deep to calm his now jittered nerves. "Yes. I mean Yeah." Lance held his own letter out. "You are the writer then?" Lance asked with a hopeful expression.

@@Doc Ginger,

Ragnar shook his head.

"Alas, no. I stumbled upon the letter in what I would imagine is not a dissimilar manner than the way you found your copy. It's quite curious, is it not? Perhaps it would be best if we were to work together in finding more information about it."

"I.." Lance paused for a moment then nodded his head. "I am in agreement then... It. It seems just finding this adventure is one on its own." Lance laughed nervously at the griffin..

"So... um.... I'm Lance. Its... Really a... Pleasure to meet you?" Lance extended a hoof to the Griffin.

@@Doc Ginger,

Ragnar shook his hoof, careful not to hurt him with his talons. That was never a good way to start a relationship.

"It is a pleasure indeed, Lance. My name is Ragnar. You may not have heard of me, but any gun made in the last few years was probably influenced by my inventions."

Lance blinked twice, surprised.

"Your name is not so small as you think.. We... Them... The Royal Guards like to... um.. Jump on any new weapons technology... Well.. Adopt and play with it... I've never seen one used beyond a range but uh.. Nice work.. I guess, yeah. They're nice tools.. Just won't see much use out of a nation that doesn't have cause to use them..."

Lance looked around, still conscious of the fact he was standing in the middle of a relatively crowded area. "Should we not.... um, look somewhere else for more information regarding our letters?"

@@Doc Ginger,

Ragnar nodded and gave a satisfied smile at the recognition of his name.

"I suppose we should look elsewhere, yes. I don't suppose you have any ideas of where else we might find information? Being a town guard and all, you must know the area quite well. Better than me, certainly."

"Well actually... I'm uh... Royal Guard. The ones, that stand around doing nothing.... We dont... Really deal with any of the domestic items.... We're just here.... yeaaaahhh." Lance began to look suitably embarrassed as he once again realized just how badly he needed to get out and do SOMETHING..

Regardless, he began to think of anything that stood out in his mind about the local area, and where one might information.

Well, he remembered a pretty Mare who greeted him as he entered the town, the various shops and artisans as well as a local library.

Perhaps one of the shop owners knows something, or there is something in the library. Either way, they will have to decide.

Lance tried to remember the mare's face, after all once a helpful face always a helpful face right?

Lance spoke to the Griffin once again, "Ragnar, have you checked with the library yet? I mean, even if they know nothing of current rumors... There could always have been things like this in the past right? Maybe there are records.... We could check up with any... ah, Adventure related shops or street vendors on the way as well?"

You try your best to best to remember the Mare, but you just are not able to do so. You are lucky to remember that it was a mare.
Perhaps by seeing her again you might remember her, but right now she escaped your memory. ( You can retry in an hour of in game time. )

@@Doc Ginger,

"Those are all good ideas, although we can't be sure that the shops are still being run by the same people. Although, the odds of something in the library aren't that great either, and thats assuming we could find it. Alright, let's look for shops that we know have been run by the same person for a long time. That seems like the best bet."

Lance nodded, 'That sounds logical.... I ah... guess we'll use that plan then... Do you know where we can find shops like that though? Maybe you should take lead though. I ah... don't get out much. So I really don't know that many ponies, erm. Folk.'

Lance started chewing on his lip, aggravated that he couldn't remember the mare.

@@Doc Ginger,

Ragnar sighed.

"You mean you don't know these people either? I only moved here recently and I hardly ever leave the house except to stock up on parts. I guess we'll just have to try whatever seemingly old shops we come across. Look for places that have family names and things like that."

The oldest 'shop' around here is the Blacksmith who can be quite proud of his ancestors. The next oldest thing would be a few farms outside the village. Then there is still the Library. It was quite big, a testament to it's age.

Both were open around this hour.

Lanced began to lead the way out of the building, 'well... really we should start with the blacksmith... i think he'd be a fan of yours at least. That and if anyone would know about anything related to adventure it should be the smithy. Does.. that sound good to you?
