Starstream 182 March 30, 2013 Share March 30, 2013 I typically refer to everyone here as bronies more or less . Just out of habit. Thank you, I appreciate that. It makes me feel a little bit less... "out of place". Truth be told, the question of this topic has been burning at the back of my mind for a while, I'm glad someone asked the question for me, giving me an opportunity to evaluate some stuff.
Ikrelath 3 March 30, 2013 Share March 30, 2013 (edited) Well, if you atleast watcheded a couple of episodes of mlp, you're a brony, I guess? But if you haven't watched any.... You're not a brony? Throwaway19573639385 764 March 30, 2013 Share March 30, 2013 Well, a brony defines itself as a fan of the show AND it's fandom. Meaning, unless they have recently joined the fandom and are procrastinating and not watching the other episodes, they aren't really bronies, just people how check out the content the fandom has produced. Just having watched the show and having enjoyed it is enough to be a brony in my eyes, otherwise, not really.

Which to me is odd, I started by getting most of the show watched, then began getting into the fan stuff and exploring the fandom. "You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that." -Duncan McLeod.
decoherence 183 March 30, 2013 Share March 30, 2013 (edited) My personal definition of a brony is someone who tries to practice the virtues represented by the elements of harmony, or more generally someone who takes the show's positive messages and applies them in day to day life. I suppose on top of that, you'd have to identify those traits as coming from the show. So while the Dalai Lama (for example) might not be a brony, I think he'd make a terrific one and would happily accept him in to bronydom whether he watched the show or not! But that's just my personal definition. I try to stay out of the business of judging others -- i think anyone who likes ponies can call themselves a brony. The worst they might hear from me is that they're behaving in a un-brony like way if they're being mean or whatever. Ghost 173 March 31, 2013 Share March 31, 2013 If they enjoy the fan content and consider themselves bronies, I would consider them bronies too. I'm sure there are people out there who aren't huge fans of the show and haven't seen many episodes, but still love the fandom and its creations. They still like MLP in one way or another, which is what counts. Who knows, the show could still grow on them too.
Paleopony 705 September 20, 2021 Share September 20, 2021 I think you need to watch at least several episodes of the show in order to be considered a brony.
EpicEnergy 23,227 October 9, 2021 Share October 9, 2021 Well the term "brony" refers to one who has actually watched and liked the show, so to be technical about it, yes, you have to watch the show to be a brony. However, you don't have to watch the show to be a part of the MLP fandom. *totally not up to any shenanigans*
