On Warnings For Technical Things

(edited)

If I'm given a warning, I want to know EXACTLY what I wrote at the time as well as their reason for giving it.

Perhaps the post can be lit up like xmas instead of deleted entirely, with a big banner on it saying that it violated the minimum character rule and put the message the moderator sent to the user explaining why it was given. Or maybe just include what I wrote in the message issuing the warning!

That way if I'm given a warning from a buried topic that only has two replies and was made 10 days ago I know what the heck the context was so I don't make the same mistake in the future.

EDIT: I read the forum rules again for like the fifth time this afternoon, and the area about the character limit was pretty sparse. I think you should also add this as well:

"Please do not circumvent the character minimum with filler text. It is there to ensure the quality of posts and doing so not only defeats the purpose, but is also a violation of the forum rules."

Well if you look at the warning given, you can press "More information" to the right, where the moderator who gave the warning will explain in short, why the warning was given. There will also be a link to the thread where you posted the post that gave you the warning.

In the most cases you will probably understand what post they mean, but I have heard (very few) ponies saying things like "I just got warning points for no reason, wtf?" So I think that adding a quote of the post you've made to get the warning is a good thing.

Cause then you can look back a few months later and see how big of an idiot you were c:

The second is what the majority of the staff try to do, and it's what we're trying and get all staff to always do. We've tried making a public example of posts that went against the rules by making the hidden red bars viewable and thus the moderation notes, but it predictably caused more issues than it did serve a good deterrent.

Just to add on to what CD is saying there, if you're ever uncertain as to the validity of a warning, or are uncertain what a given warning was provided for you can always contact the administration via a moderation dispute ticket. While a response may not come immediately, we will give you the full scoop on what went on.

If the warning was too vaguely worded, the ticket would also help to alert us to the fact that we may have to ask the moderator to adjust his or her behavior and habits when issuing warnings.
