Fhaolan 4,484 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Interestingly, the EG film is apparently distributed to the few theatres showing it on something that at least *resembles* a Blu-Ray disc. So I have a few questions on the off-chance someone here actually works in a theatre. 1) Is that really a Blu-Ray disc? 2) Could it be played in a normal Blu-Ray player, or is it some kind of proprietary sub-format? 3) Is this how movies are getting distributed to theatres now-a-days? 4) What's preventing someone at the theatre running into their laptop and copying the thing? ~StatesTheOblivious~ 1,795 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 As far as I know, this is a special, highly protected disc format. But there is also often that they use hard drives nowadays. So yes, the modern cinema is digitalized and you can't simply watch it on usual devices. "If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences." - W. I. Thomas & D. S. Gay Bird 421 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 I'm pretty sure the theaters use a very fast and large hard drive of some sort. Blu-ray discs actually use a bit of compression, which means lower quality, so I would suspect most theaters wouldn't use blu-ray, but a higher quality format. I've also seen one theater that actually still using film, by burning the digital images on to film and projecting using that. RockinRarity 1,605 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 At the beginning of the movie, I saw at the corner that there was a Blu-ray player thingy there. Everyone in the theater laughed at that. It is kinda funny that they are just playing the movie on a Blu-ray. Guess it was only 5 bucks to go see it for a reason. Shanks 10,816 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 When I saw the movie I saw an LG computer logo and I was like WTF? When they first started the movie they gave a big of an unintentional spoiler by starting a wee bit too far in and then they started it again and then there was no sound and then had to start it up again a few more times until it was finally at the right spot with sound and worked without a hitch for the rest of the time. It actually added to the experience because everyone kept telling jokes about it back and forth until they fixed it. soniccam1 242 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 It could be like any other DVD or BLU-Ray disc that people sell at Wal-Mart, Target, or other stores too. The best way to put this, it will be on a normal DVD or BLU-Ray. Fours words, one goal: DROP DA BASS MAN. ~ soniccam1
