Sanura was a little annoyed to see Minty taking charge; after all, only Sanura knew the way to get to the Village. "I wouldn't set off now, if I were you," the half zebra replied. "We need to take food, and tents to camp with before we set off. Also, I don't think you know exactly where you're going. I do, and the Princesses expressively asked me to lead the way to the Village."

 

Clover was beginning to feel a little anxious; the last thing the expedition needed was a fight blowing up at the start! She tried to calm things down. "Well," she said, "I'm a mage so I don't need any weaponry, so I think I'll start packing the food and camping stuff right away. Anypony who wants to help me, well, feel free."

Lost quickly went through all his things to make sure he had everything, including the hatchet and machete he always brought on dangerous expeditions. When he was satisfied, he turned to Clover. "I brought everything I need, weaponry included, so I'll help you with that."

"Already got everything I need right here." Scribe declared, motioning to the armor and sword he carried. "See Symphony? 'Leave it behind' you said 'We wont need them'."

 

"You know, you're even more annoying than usual today. I should have left you up on that mountain when I had the chance." The Crystal mare retorted, extending her brilliant yet flightless wings. "I'm fine without weapons, not my thing - these are much more useful."

"Thank you so much," Clover said, glad that somepony had agreed to help her! "It shouldn't take too long; I can put a spell on the packs to make them hold more than they seem to from the outside; it's a spell I came up with a few years ago. Tho it's mostly used by ponies who want to buy more shopping than they can carry, it's still a useful kind of spell."

Lost shrugged. "It's no trouble, really. So you write new spells? I've never had the knack for it myself, but I always thought it was fascinating. Certainly being able to create a new spell must come in handy sometimes. It's like you can rewrite the rules of the world."

"It does come in very handy," Clover replied. "My regular job is writing spellbooks; I've written about four already, along with some odd spells here and there. It's why my cutie mark is magic wands; my talent is writing and performing spells. Of course, there are some spells I'd never mess with, like any that take away a pony's free will, like a spell to make one pony fall in love with another. That just isn't right."

 

Clover performed the spell on the saddlebags that each pony would carry and began to pack them according to the weight that each pony could carry. Of course, stallions could carry more than mares as a general rule but it depended on the strength of the individual.

Lost began helping her fill the saddlebags. "Of course. There is nothing worse than to take away a ponies free will. When you do that, you reduce them to a machine, and that's a sad existence. You know, you remind me of a student I had when I was just starting out as a professor. She was very bright, always messing around with different spells and things, but she was careful not to compromise her beliefs for academic pursuits."

His ears dropped a little as he saw the others enter the armoury. He entered as well, letting out a sigh.

"Weapons... Why..." he whispered to himself, as he seemed to ignore anything that could harm anypony, and rather defend himself with. "Hm... What do I grab..." he said, looking through some shields and armour.

"Hey kid, you ok?" Scribe said as he lounged by the armoury instead or actually helping, much to symphony's annoyance.

 

"You were looking a little lost is all, need any help? You forgot to pick up a weapon."

"Excuse me, I'm not interrupting, am I?" Symphony asked, approaching the two who were packing supplies.

 

"I just wanted to ask a favour. You might have noticed my friend in there, the idiot one?" She rolled her eyes. "He's not going to shut up all the way there, given half a chance. I overheard you mention your spell, could you make sure to pack extra supplies into his bags? It might keep him quiet for a change."

 

She glanced around.

 

"Or rocks, or anything really, just to keep the fool busy. trust me, you don't want to have to listen to him for an extended period if time..."

Minty looked a little hurt at Samura's comment. "Okay.." Minty said, trotting home. She opened the door; and was tempted to bail on the mission. Her loyalty to the Princess was too strong though; she just couldn't. She doesn't feel at all respected by the group. She just decided that she'll carry on with the mission unnoticed. She grabbed her coat and buried herself in her hood, and packed her tent and necessities to survive. She trotted back to the castle.

Looking at a few small wooden shields, he noticed the pony Scribe ask him something.

"When it comes to weapons, I am lost, yeah... I do not feel fit for weapons to be honest. I would rather defend than anything else..." he said, picking up some light armour that seemed to fit the front of his legs.

Clover smiled at Lost. "Well, I do try to stick to my personal beliefs, not to harm anypony," she said. "On this mission, I'd prefer to use my magic to protect the group rather than to hurt or kill. If an enemy attacks, I'll just put a sleep spell on them."

Clover replied, "Well, I was thinking that the stallions ought to carry more, anyway." She grinned as she packed a few extras into one bag. "Tell your friend that this bag is for him."

Lost smiled. "I can respect that. Protecting the group is my biggest priority too. But I'll hurt somepony if I have to. I'm no warrior, but I refuse to let any harm befall the ponies I care about." Not again, anyway. Not after that. "So I'll fight to protect them, if it comes to that."

Sanura felt bad for snapping at Minty. She obviously meant well, after all, but Sanura often felt a bit left out amongst ponies. That came from being the foal of a zebra and an earth pony; sometimes, Sanura felt that she didn't fit with either species but was just in the middle.

Minty trotted back into the castle to check if everypony is done packing, and backed out when she spotted Sanura. She went back outside. She decided to avoid her as much as possible, for fear that she might snap at her again. She flew behind a curtain when she saw her trotting out. She squeaked in fear.

Scribe looked over the colt, then back to the weapons and armor.

 

"Honestly? I'd rather not have to use anything like this..." He waved towards to assortment of arms and armor. "They made 'em for a reason though, sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do."

"I'll be sure to, thanks, I owe you." Symphony replied with a rare smile. Maybe now she would get some peace on the road.

 

'Doubt it. Cant be any worse than he has been though.'

 

She nodded her appreciation to Clover and Lost. "I'd better make sure he isn't trying to talk to the Princess again, see you around."

Clover nodded, determinedly. "I will too, if I'm driven to it," she replied. "I don't like to, but if it came to a point where either the enemy lives or my friends, then I will make sure that the enemy dies. But I wouldn't take any pleasure in it, as some ponies do.

"Of course," Clover added, "It's going to be a difficult journey, so he'd better behave himself. Or else I may have to teach him some manners."

Sanura walked over to Minty. She winced when she heard the other mare's squeak of fear; Sanura didn't want to be feared. "I think we got off on the wrong hoof earlier," she said. "I apologise if I hurt your feelings; I sometimes find it difficult to talk to ponies. I just don't feel I fit in with them, at all. But I would like us to at least get along. Maybe when we set off, you can help me scout out the area before we camp."

If there's one thing I've learned it my studies, it's that when ponies turn against each other, it usually ends in disaster. I'd like to think we're slowly learning from the mistakes of the past, though. Maybe someday we'll learn to avoid fighting altogether." He smiled at her. She really was quite a nice mare.

"Yeah... Though I do have an idea..." North said, as he picked out a few pieces of armour, equipping a couple of small, light plates of metal to his fore-legs.

"Light, though it will help." he said.

"And if needed, I can carry some extra equipment, and lend me eyes to help scouting or keeping watch in the dark... They have adapted so, for my home is quite dark in the wintertime when I prefer to be around."

"Neither am I," Clover replied. "I'd describe myself as a mage, rather than as a warrior; as well as creating spells I can perform them as well. I studied for years after school at the Canterlot School Of Magic, and I never put time aside for socialising, the way a lot of ponies do. In any case, all we can do is our best and hope that will be enough."

Lost nodded. "I can understand that. When I was still a graduate student, I had to pretty much abandon my social life in order to keep up with my studies. It was rather miserable to be honest, but I guess in the end it was worth it to get to where I am now. Of course, I still don't have a whole lot of time for socializing."

Minty nodded at Sanura shyly. She still wasnt comfortable enough to talk. She picked up her saddlebag and waited for everypony to be done packing. She wanted to investigate this village. She also wanted to know who was already at the village. Was it a ghost? She cringed at the thought, and sighed relieved knowing that other ponies are going with her.

Minty nodded, and flew up a few inches above the ground eagerly waiting to go to the village. You wouldn't expect it, but there was a thrilling side of Minty that she wouldn't be scared of anything except messes or bugs. Or being betrayed. She pointed to the direction of the village hopefully, wanting to scout the village.
