ThunderShock1 24 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 During the Q&A Panel at Comic Con, this question was posed and answered: Q: How far adavnced is the storyline planned overallA: Things were set up and planned to be explored in season four from season three This is an interesting idea considering many bronies consider season 3 to be weak overall. But if we look at it from a different perspective, we have a lot to ponder. So, what big things did season 3 set up? 1. The crystal empire returning and Cadence and Shining becoming its rulers. 2. Discord becoming reformed. 3. The equestrian games in the planning stages / about to commence 4. Twilight's ascension into an alicorn princess If we look at season 3 as an establishment arc for season 4 with a few good episodes of its own, does that improve or degrade the season's quality overall? Maybe the writting staff thought this through when they found out of the 13 episode limit. What do you guys think?
LordDiscord 289 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 I'm just hoping we get to see Discord more often, because it would stink if out of the 26 episodes( we are getting),he only appears in one episode. Also I really hope we see the return of the Changlings.
Argumedies 1,748 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 Ya know I've often pondered that and I knew season 3 had several key major events but they didn't add up to season 4 components because the episodes rarely touch one another... But now that you mention it...

Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 This is one of the reasons to why I liked season 3. Yes, it was not perfect and had it's flaws but I think this can explain it. Hasbro wanted syndication with 65 episodes. Making season 3 have 13 episodes obviously did that. So the best idea by the writers, I assume, was to use season 3 as a sort of foundation for season 4. Given they that introduced many new changes, it makes sense. Of course, minus Babs since she is apparently getting the boot. There is all the apparent info that season 3 was originally the final season of the show. So, when they decided to continue it further, they probably used their original ideas as stepping stones rather than just doing them fully, such as Rainbow Dash beginning her training as a Wonderbolt rather than just becoming one. This is all just speculation on my part though. This actually might be my favorite thing about season 3. It really shook up the formula of the show and really opened doors for advancement. I like that a lot. I am really looking forward to season 4 because of this, as well as the amazing info that we have been given. 2 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell. Argumedies 1,748 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 I'm wondering.... In light of the new information given in the trailer, that we can now *unofficially * label season 3 a prequel to events to play out in season 4. By what I saw, most everything in it ties the seasons together in some way. I'll admit, as much as I liked season 3, its shortness left me feeling robbed But in light of this new evidence, season 3 now makes more sense
Batbrony 16,087 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 (edited) If we look at season 3 as an establishment arc for season 4 with a few good episodes of its own, does that improve or degrade the season's quality overall? Maybe the writting staff thought this through when they found out of the 13 episode limit. What do you guys think? I don't think that was the writers ONLY intent when they were putting Season 3 together, but I think it was definitely in the back of their heads. One thing we have to always remember with Season 3 whenever we look back on it is this: for most of the season, DHX did not know whether or not MLP was going to be renewed for a 4th season. Meghan McCarthy has been on record stating this; after all, it was only announced close to the end of Season 3 that MLP had been renewed for a 4th season. So really I think they had to approach Season 3 during most of its production from TWO different perspectives: (1) As you mentioned already, given its shorter nature, it COULD be designed as an establishing arc that sets up the show for a longer following season with more developments and updates to the ongoing, overall plot of the show, or... (2) It also had to be designed as something that COULD HAVE served as the series finale, and this is most obvious in "Magical Mystery Cure". While certainly rushed in its pacing and execution, overall that episode in its design is supposed to be able to serve as a series finale if it had to. Would it have been satisfying as one? Probably not, considering they had to fit so much into one episode, but again, they did so I believe only because they weren't sure at the time they wrote it whether or not the show would be renewed. Ergo, given the circumstances they had to create Season 3 under, I've never been disappointed with it; DHX was dealing the whole season with whether or not they'd be renewed beyond the 65-episode limit, and so they had to make a season that, given its limited nature, could either set up multiple new story arches or serve as a series finale. Thankfully, it will serve as the former, and I think in time more and more bronies will come to appreciate Season 3 for what it was and what it set up given the circumstances that DHX had to work under. PonyBoy15 428 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 I did feel that season 4 was weak but now that you point all that out, it all makes sense. I a lot of big events did happen during season 3 as pointed out, and now season 4 can build up on these events and expand. Rarity: Generous, Classy, and Sophisticated... Planty 1,053 July 21, 2013 Share July 21, 2013 Season 3 dis feel very disjointed at times with things being exsplored only partially and then seemingly completely left. If they do use this for s4 it would be really cool to finally see so many things in s3 come to fruition. I think one of the biggest complaints of the finale for s3 was it was so out of the blue and crammed a bit much in for one episode that it didnt feel right and something like the equestrian games should have been sone to follow on better. But s4 could well be seen as almost s3.5 if they follow everything that s3 mentioned and round it all off nicely ! Have ANY questions about Christianity? INBOX ME!
