Out of the mane six, except twilight, who would be the next best leader?

Say if they all had to become leaders who do you think would be the best (after twilight, if you don't agree with Twilight, I'm only saying her because of the whole smartness, responsibility, her becoming a princess sort of thing, and she seems like the leader type to me)

Applejack would easily be the next choice. She has the most common sense and is honest and the most hard working. And can see her being good at making tough decisions. But after the cider episode I would not trust her with a business. That honor would go to Rarity.

Applejack or Rarity easily. Applejack is the level-headed type character...well her and Rarity both, I suppose. They can both be rather intelligent and can read emotions quite easily. So, Applejack and Rarity are my tied choices.

Applejack would be the best as she is the most mature of the 6 and the most level headed.  She's kind of the one that holds them together anyways when Twilight loses focus.

This would have to go to Applejack, she is easily the most level headed mane 6 character and is used to taking on high levels of responsibility by helping her brother run Sweet Apple Acres after their parents kicked the bucket.

Let's break this down:

 

Fluttershy: Terrified of saying the wrong thing, and we have seen she hates being in a position of power. (Green Isn't Your Color). Would probably be scared of offending people, and would completely lose her head in a war or political struggle. However, we have seen she is working on being assertive and is capable of standing up for herself. (Putting Your Hoof Down). 3/10

 

Rainbow Dash: Strong and loyal, would probably make an excellent ruler, but a poor strategist. Still has an amazing amount of maturing to do, but will most likely form long-lasting alliances. However, keeping peace may be a difficulty with her, and we have seen pride go to her head. (Mysterious Mare-Do-Well). All in all, definitely a short-list name. 6/10

 

Rarity: Seen excelling at running a business (A Dog and Pony Show, Sweet and Elite, etc.,) and therefore would be good managerial material. Is capable of managing other people well and making other ponies like her, despite giving orders (Green Isn't Your Color). However, is very emotional and prone to breakdowns (Every Episode Known To Mankind). Would probably go insane in a crisis. 8/10

 

Pinkie Pie: Do not consider. Would make a terrible ruler. Equestria would be in total chaos, anarchy would reign, and the entire world would be bathed in the light of neon pink. 0/10

 

Applejack: Hardworking, honest, and capable of handling huge amounts of pressure and work. Most definitely keeps her head in a crisis, although would most likely be unable to compete with the finer games of politics. Would make a very good, down-to-earth ruler but has been known to be prideful (Applebuck Season, The Last Roundup). 9/10

 

So it would probably come down to Rarity or AJ.

We all have the ability to be a leader, but can we make good leaders? I've been following RD's character development too, and I think she has a long, long, long way to go before her character arc will be complete. Of the Mane Six's personality flaws, hers is the most serious and the most common, and therefore the most frustrating to watch. (At least for me.)

 

I think Rainbow Dash could be a good leader if given the time to mature, and if given the appropriate cabinet. She would definitely make a good military leader, that's for sure, although she would need someone to pin her wings now and then and tell her not to rush off into battle.

It used to be. Judging from my circle of friends (nearly all of whom are ex-military), loyalty doesn't seem to be playing a big part in the military nowadays. :/ But that's neither here nor there; RD could be a decent general, maybe, but I don't think she has the ability to face the moment when people are dying, and they're trapped in a corner, and three people turn to her and say, "What do we do?" I think she'd suffer from frustration and anxiety, and crumble pretty quickly.

 

I also don't see her sitting on a throne all day signing edicts and laws. The exciting part of being a ruler might fit her just fine, but the public appearances, speeches, and approvals would have her bored senseless. ^^

Applejack, she seems like she could be a leader. Rainbow Dash would get too cocky, Pinkie Pie wouldn't take it seriously, Fluttershy, as cute as she is, couldn't do it, and  Rarity can't get dirty so that could get in the way.

A leader doesn't necessarily have to be a ruler, Twilight isn't one yet. Really Twilight isn't technically a leader herself, she is kind of like the glue in the mane six friendship, but then again the other 5 could be seen the same way. I guess it all comes down to personal opinion and worldviews.

All right, fair point, but we haven't seen Rainbow Dash take any initiative yet, unless it was for her own gain. The biggest, most proud moment I had for RD was when she stood up to Lightning Dust and Spitfire. That was a great moment of character development, but it kind of faded away after that. Like I've stated previously, given enough time she could be an excellent leader, but right now she's just interested in leading other people because they'll look up to her, and puff up her ego some more.

I think the wonderbolts academy experience was very good for Rainbow Dash to kind of solidify what her current traits and views entail. I agree she has a lot of work to do in terms of leading but I don't think if put in a leadership position at this point in time she would make a decision that would get someone hurt. To be a good leader you have to be a good follower and when Rainbow Dash is denied the lead position I think as a follower she does a wonderful job seeing the flaws of her leader and determining what she would do correctly instead.

AppleJack. She's very responsible and her pride refuses to let her rest from her current move. I'm sure she would be able to handle the title of being a leader.

Applejack - Probably the best option. She takes care of her sister already, and appreciates honesty. She also appreciates loyalty, kindness, and a few others of the elements of harmony. She'd probably be the best choice.

Fluttershy - Although she would treat her subjects with kindness, she most likely wouldn't be able to make the decisions that it takes to be a leader.

Rainbow Dash - She'd be dedicated to her job, but she'd be be too arrogant to be loyal to her nation.

Rarity - Although she sometimes takes care of her sister, she'd be too serious to be a leader. Also, her obsessions would make her job a bit difficult.

Pinkie Pie - No. Just... No. There would be parties all the time, and Equestria would fall to even the weakest of enemies.
