First OC/Ponysona Brainstorm

I know you guys have probably had this topic a million times...but I want a little help dreaming up my OC. I want to start off by simply ponifying myself to get a feel of the process and fill up that big blank space on my left. Here's my main issues atm:

 

Colour scheme

I'm a fool when it comes to mixing colours properly. I prefier cool colours, or those falling around the blue/green area of the circle. My favourite design (although I don't want to base myself off her) is lyra heartstrings.

 

Hair/manestyle

I a guy, and have long hair in real life. When I started looking at ponies with longer hair though, I noticed it always seems girly. Is there a way around this? Or will I have to cope with being called a girl if I make a pony?

 

Misunderstood copy

Alot of my main personality traits match over with twilight's....(love of reading, "sciences", cracks under stress) I'm scared I'm just going to look like a male copy of her despite only wishing to recreate myself! I don't have many other traits to fall back on either, I'm an intovert and a gamer/budding programmer after that, and the later doesn't exist in equestria. Which reminds me...

 

Nonexistent Talents

My talents revolve around things that don't exist in equestria. I feel that my destiny is to be making games or software for the enjoyment of others. How can I transfer this into something close? This would have been my cutie mark. 

 

It all pretty much comes down to not wanting to be unoriginal, and being able to ponify human stuff into pony stuff....what are your thoughts?

My advice is to try with light colours for the coat, and use a darker colour for the mane.  Blue fits nicely with green, orange, and somewhere around that. We need more information before we determine which colours we want to use, really.

Well duh, the muzzle and the face, of course. I've seen many stallion OCs with long manes before, and they didn't look girly. We can add some more attributes to make your OC look manly stallionly.

I also meet this problem. My OC is a ponified version of me. I like reading documentation books, studying stuff, often avoid my friends so I can study in peace, etc. Like Twilight right? Well, buck opinions. I kept on with it. It's me, after all. I have some differences with Twilight, and I use that to make my character original. I have some traits which are different from Twilight, and I don't care about what people think. They themselves can see that my OC is different from Twilight once they know him better.

 

I suggest you to do the same. Don't be afraid, and go with it.

Well, man. I'm a game dev too. My focus is on programming and game development, and it doesn't exist in Equestria. XD

 

You can try something different. Something else you like so much. You can be an engineer, or well, use 'magic'. Programming is similar to witchcraft, and it works like magic. Why don't you make your OC specializes in a particular type of magic? For example, my OC is good at wind magic, and he loves to try to fly with it (because he's obsessed with flying).

 

Once you've determined your OC skills and expertises, we can move on with colour scheme.

Okay...well, I have two ideas then for talents. I can either keep that I want to use my talents to bring enjoyment to others (perhaps be an entertainer?) or use my favorite form of magic: illusions. I might actually be able to fuse the two together, but when I have illusion magic at my disposal I'm tempted to use it to play pranks instead of using this for good....perhaps this could be a bit of lore for my character? Learning to use it properly? I'm liking this!

Well, illusion, and you said you want something between green and blue. You can mix them. I don't know what it is called, but you know that particular green on the aurora? I think that's a good one.

Okay, I played with colours in the way you were talking about and I'm liking this, what do you think?

The colour scheme is good enough, even though I would recommend to make the coat a little lighter, but I don't really like the mane style. Well, you said you're not going to use it, so it's up to you.

I didn't know that XD Thanks for the help, now I just need to draw it. I haven't drawn ponies before but I should be able to figure it out.

@@Outkin, you first would want to post a picture of yourself, if you want this pony to match you. I have so many ideas with him but first putting up a picture would help a lot

I'll probably come back later for feedback, but in the end I want to be the one to create well....myself.

 

Edit: Possibly rethinking that. I forgot a bad trait I have as an artist: Perfectionism. I will never be truly satisfied with my OC if I make it. It'll either not be perfect, or I'll spend so long working on it that I'll get sick of it. I'll think it over...
